    Here we go again!...:)

    Season 3 Episode 1 of 20
New series. The amateur culinary contest returns, with the first six cooks - Charlie, Niamh, Claudio, Gary, Emma and Rich - aiming to impress Nick Munier and Dylan McGrath. The hopefuls will have just one hour to create a signature dish from seafood, lamb, rabbit or steak; and only four of them will progress through to the next stage in the competition

Between the ads and the pointless shots this will be about ten minutes cooking....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,895 ✭✭✭lertsnim

I'd rather one show per week that is an hour long instead of two half hour episodes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,749 ✭✭✭✭grey_so_what

Can't stand anyone wiping their forehead in a teatowel.....

Even if it's the designated one for that.....:(

I know their time is very short but their work stations are a nightmare, with everything piled up.

An hour for steak and chips shouldn't be long...

The sauce wouldn't take that long either..

At the start of the show he said he did not want to become a commis-chef he just wanted to run his own kitchen, he wants to start at the top.

The sauce is a bit puddly....

Even though the sauce is runny, but it looks the best by far. I would not mind sampling the lobster.

Straight into it and it feels like it's over before it began
Would definitely benefit from being on for a hour.

Remind me again why Dermot Bannon gets an hour.

And then these fellas and the Brennan brothers get half an hour.

Oh puhlease...... the editing is sooooooo predictable!

Cocky Italian guy who wants to run the world - out first (despite his dish being one of the most attractive-looking of all).
Guy cooking steak and chips gets totally dissed by them beforehand as being so simple as to practically be beneath them, turns out to be the best meal of the day.
Gary (God help him) shown saying he practiced and practiced and could do this dish in his sleep - and it's a car-crash disaster.
Everyone furrows their brows (including on here!) at baking the rabbit first, then roasting it (except I thought that cooking in an oven WAS roasting , but anyway) - and lo and behold the rabbit turns out nice and moist after all, and they have to admit that through gritted teeth.

Not sure I'm going to last the pace if it's this predictable.

And I'm willing to bet that there won't be an encouraging word spoken to a single contestant between here and the final by either judge.

In fact, why am I even watching this at all :confused::confused:

But you can bet I'll be tuned in for the next one!

Are there any boardsies in this series? It's nearly a requirement at this stage :D

Picked this off the RTE website cofy....

"The format of this year's series has changed slighted. Over the next four weeks 24 amateur cooks will enter the MasterChef kitchen. The four heats will see six new cooks enter the kitchen on a Tuesday where they will have one hour to impress Nick and Dylan with their signature dish.

Having tasted the six dishes the judges will eliminate two cooks. The remaining four will return the next night where they will experience the pressure of a busy lunch service in a professional kitchen in some of Dublin’s top restaurants.

They will then return to the MasterChef kitchen to cook one more time
for Nick and Dylan and to fight for their place in the final ten. Their task will be a Key Ingredient Task. Nick and Dylan will give them an hour and a half to create one dish that showcases the key ingredient.

The competition heats up in week five as the final ten amateur cooks come together for the first time. Over the course of the following five weeks they face a series of intensive challenges in the MasterChef kitchen, master classes and some tough restaurant services."

Nothing about the length of the future programs....:(

Is all the above going to be on a half hour program???......

Putting them into pro kitchens on day 1 is just gratuitous car-crash telly.

    Cheap thrills.

Evening all, speaking of polenta cake, I found polenta in Lidl during the week. I had been having trouble finding it.

Lotta expensive waste fish happening here......

Well, the Chef in the Shelbourne is taking no prisoners!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,257 ✭✭✭BettePorter

Whatever about the burnt fish going to the bin I very much doubt without a camera they'd put the the first piece which went into cold pan in the bin!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,749 ✭✭✭✭grey_so_what

This is at a mad pace.

We'll be lucky to actually see a plate of food at all!....

It's like someone on roller skates flying past you with a pan, a knife and a blender at this stage...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,972 ✭✭✭cofy

Well, the Chef in the Shelbourne is taking no prisoners!

He can't afford to. It's a real baptism of fire.

    I'm not inspired so far...

A curry and a roast chicken dinner...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 587 ✭✭✭Cosmo2013

Agree with the long post from HeidiHeidi.....so they throw out the guy who simply didn't season fish last night but the fella who practiced his dish 15 times and still made a pigs ear of it is still there. Doesn't add up for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,876 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

OK going on it so far.....

first guy is making a curry - gets dissed - bet it's amazing.

Woman reckons she learned loads about butchery, but looks like she's butchering (and not in a good way) the chicken.

Guy cooking something that should be a "nasty thing to put in your mouth". What bets it's divine and he wins the round?

Am I getting a bit too cynical to be watching this at all?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,749 ✭✭✭✭grey_so_what

Not a single word of encouragement so far....

Gary is a disaster with the mess he makes..
