The Irish Craft Beer Village is back again this month folks. This year it's being moved into the CHQ building so hopefully will be a bit warmer anyway.

Good list of breweries coming and I'll let you'se know what specials they're bringing as soon as I know
    http://www.irishfest.ie/beer.html
The Food Market opens daily from 10am - 8pm and entry is always FREE.

The Craft Beer and Whiskey Bar Village opens at 5pm on Thursday, runs daily from 12.30 until 10pm for Friday (with bar opening at 4pm), Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Free admission before 6pm on Thursday and Friday. Admission is €5 at the door after 6pm and all day Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Does anyone know if it will be a similar set up price-wise/glass-wise as the one in the RDS?

Much preferred the RDS festival set-up, as opposed to the €3.33 per small plastic glass set-up the Alltech festival had going on

    Looking forward to it!

Last year it was €5 a pint, although stronger ABV beers such as O'Hara's DIPA and Kindred Spirit whiskey stout were €7 a pint. I'm not sure about glassware but I'm assuming it'll be plastic pint glasses as well as they have trouble getting licensing for actual glass.

Not sure how the CHQ set up is going to be but I think there'll hopefully be more space for brewer talks etc.

Surely there'd be no issues with glass given that it is being held indoors and not on that island-like structure this time.

That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if it was plastic just to spite popular opinion.

Is that standard pricing or is each brewer fixing their own prices do you know? It would be handy if they just put the pricelist on their website.

This is a centralised bar rather than the individual brewery bars as in the RDS, so that would be standard pricing.

The organisers are big beer fans and are just as annoyed about the plastic rule as everyone else.

Pricing in the RDS is standardised too, most beers there cost 1 token per pint half pint and it was only the stronger ABV ones that brewers charged more for.

Ok sorted for a Hop Randall, gonna borrow the B&C's so big thanks to them.

Sooo, suggestions folks. Wouldn't mind trying out a stout with coffee beans and maybe vanilla and cocoa nibs myself.

Yeah, maybe a Yannaroddy with coconut.

I love this. Ciaran sticks up an idea and within hours it's implemented.

I reckon Ciaran is due at least a pint.

None but we'll have Carraig, Creans and Hersbrucker lager at least. Not even sure if Helles is in production at the minute.

Starting a list of sorts. Feel free to throw more suggestions up.

O'Hara's Natural Blond with Citra hops
    Yannarroddy with Coconut
Eight Degrees Amber Ella with NZ hops of some sort
OH/Pinta (Poland) Collaboration Oatmeal Stout with coffee and vanilla
Metalman IPA with Cascade hops + grapefruit

Going to see if I can get my hands on some dried mango too.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,592 ✭✭✭drumswan

Don't think amber ella needs any more hops!

Is there likely to be any more beers added Irish_goat?

True but have to keep the hardcore hopheads happy. :P

Think that's the full list though. A few of the ones that don't say bottle specifically will be bottled though.

Refuse to pay into these type of things. Don't they charge the breweries to attend?

    No.

It's not cheap to put these events on; licenses, insurance, good looking staff etc all cost money.

Why would you refuse to pay in? You think its free to rent the convention centre? Ive never heard of a beer festival with free entry

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15,116 ✭✭✭✭RasTa

I'd rather spend my fiver in my local. However did presume they charged the breweries and restaurants.

    Two things:
    1. It keeps the scummers out. Troublemakers won't be arsed paying in. As a result, the atmosphere is always relaxed and friendly.

    2. Fair enough about giving it to your local but events like these can represent a great opportunity to sample a wide variety of beers you might not normally get to drink under one roof.

Refusing to pay a fiver to a hosted event like this? If you had said something like 15 quid yes i'd agree, but a fiver???!

    BierPassie, Antwerp

Walk around the stands for free, look as much as you like, come and go as you wish.

But to have a drink, you must buy a glass + programme, = 5 euro.

    Beer token = 2 euro.

Paying in to events like these is pretty standard in Ireland and england. Also there is public liability insiance and rent to consider. No sure how they run it in Belgium, but maybe Zyoths are subing it to help pay for event .

It's also free in before 6 on friday

Is it plastic cups or glasses they are using for this event?
    Just out of curiosity.
