What a stupid idea to call the program The Nicky Byrne show when it has a co presenter. What an insult to Jenny Greene

The Chris Moyles Show (several co presenters)
    The Ray Foley Show (JP)
The Adrian Kennedy Phone Show (The other guy)

It's how it goes. Wouldn't call it an insult. Hope it works out though for both of them

And does 2fm really need another show with a sidekick ? Only 3 weekday shows wont have a sidekick.

I wish I didn't have to pay licence fee, it sickens me any of my money goes towards any member of the ahern family!

It's not bad so far. Jenny is very good, he's quite personable and the two of them have good chemistry. Although I'm not quite sure yet what the point of the show is, or what the content will be other than the two of them yapping between songs.

But from what I've heard so far, much better than New Breakfast or New Drive. The imaging is incredibly out-dated though.

    Yeah, I agree.
3 hours is a long time though so we'll see how it goes!

Why they have 3 intros telling us its the Nikki Byrne show is beyond me .. then Nikki he tells us its the Nikki Byrne show after the 3 intros ... The music is down to Jenny, so if its good she should get the credit, quite aside from that in the context of 2FM as a whole I stuggle to see the point of this show. Bear in mind just before we had the giddy Nicky intros Tubs was talking to 2 guys suffering from debilitating agoraphobia and prior to that the subject matter was dyslexia. It cant be overstated how important Jenny is to the smooth running of this show, she's a consummate pro. My main gripe is it should be called the Nicky and jenny show if anything.

flicked over for a few seconds

"nuttin done - more to do ..."

good luck to yea.. Mr Byrne

Jenny sounds as if she is embarrassed to be in the studio with Nicky. He hasn't a clue what he is at. :)

Should have kept Damien McCaul, he played some pretty good music and was pretty good craic. Listened a bit today to this ****e, the flow between Jenny and Nicky was awful, mainly because Nicky kept trying to force Jenny to say something. Jenny Green is wasted on this show.

Caught the last 35 odd minutes of the show. Compared to the tripe that 2fm have on for Breakfast I didn't think it was too bad. Rather enjoyed it actually.

+1 on that today. I listened in for about 90 min and enjoyed it. The banter doesn't seem forced and i think its going to pull from Ray Darcy who after all is almost 50 and theres an a demographic who can't relate to him at all.

Add to that i caught some of Tubs on repeat last week and it wasn't half bad either. He was so much more natural and nice than Darcy who is turning all grumpy and full of his own importance.......

I've caught about an hour and a half of it over the 2 days, I'm liking it so far. I thought Nicky would be a pompus ass but so far he's grand and Jenny is a natural as ever.

Was surprised by this, heard most of it over Monday and Tuesday and enjoyed the bits I heard. It's a double act that has some enthusiasm and they work better together than the hosts who follow them. This is one schedule change 2fm have got right.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 371 ✭✭Frog Song

Nicky always seemed like a pretty sound guy and he is likeable on the show. To be honest I think they're doing well for the first week. Best of luck to them, it'd be great if this works because the other new shows definitely don't! I'm giving him a chance anyway.

Dare i say in the future they could be a 9 to 12 option to go directly against Darcy..............with a more lusic lunch type show to follow it. I honestly think Mark McCabe is worth a full slot on the schedule, good presenter without going overboard and is the right age demographic for the listners they are looking for.

Really enjoying the show. Jenny is definitely "carrying" it but they seem a good pairing. Loving the "electric disco" elements. She really is miles ahead of every other female presenter.

Yeah its its lazy to just copy what a station in the same time slot is doing, not a chat show etc but a throw back playing the same type of music from a specific time period. I know its a great advert for Electric Disco but its kjust plain lazy and my only major negative from the week having listened to the majority of it.

KC just got that from Ray Foley's lazy radio.

I didn't think kc was playing an hour of old school stuff, foley used to play a lot but kc is too rock flavoured.

Listened and expected to be unimpressed but surprisingly I wasn't. Jenny sounds so together and Nicky was great considering he had little radio experience. The links were fun, creative, well balanced between the two of them and the newsreader. They rarely spoke over each other, which I expected with the fresh chemistry. I really think this will work and is going to be gold. I would love to say the same about the breakfast show but sadly it's a disorganised, unprofessional pile of rubbish.

So I listened to The Nicky Byrne Show today for the first time. Well at least part of it, while driving.

They were talking to Richard Fairbrass from Right Said Fred.

    Great radio.

Fairbrass was up for a laugh and didn't take himself too seriously (which always helps).

The piece made me smile and they finished with a classic Right Said Fred song (no such thing I'm told)....... Deeply Dippy.

Well done all concerned. Could this show be a success?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 135 ✭✭Turn the radio on

Yeah i think it's a huge improvement on the Colm Hayes phone in show.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,064 ✭✭✭The_Wanderer

Out of the new shows on the daytime schedule, this is miles ahead of the others. Witty, good banter between the hosts and (breakfast tripe take note) Nikky and Jenny just being themselves. They have a good chemistry on air.

Who are you people and what have you done with the usual radio forum boardsies? :p

    This too shall pass.

I heard yesterday's show this morning and listening to today's show now. I think nicky bryne is doing great considering he has only had a few goes at radio, and jenny...well what can you say about jenny, she is a solid as you like and just brilliant.

The breakfast show can learn a thing about how not to talk over each other during a link. They also seem to get in and have good chemistry.

I think this show has potential to be great.

I suspect that this show being surprisingly OK is a testament to the skill of producer Alan Swan.

He's a good guy, and talented.

I'm not detracting from Jenny, she's a fine broadcaster, one of the best in the country, but molding her expertise with an inexperienced boy band 'star' and resulting something other than rubbish has to be admired.

Alan Swan is a good producer but at the same time, he can't put words in to their mouth or make them click together as people so I think Jenny and Nicky deserve more credit than it all being down to the producer.

I've heard this a few times too and I've been pleasantly surprised. Nicky is really not what I expected. He comes across as very affable, willing to have a laugh at his own expense and easy enough to listen to... and he lets Jenny do her share of the talking. The music isn't bad either. I'd say Jenny has some influence there.

I think 2FM have come up with a good combination here, whether by accident or not!

Hayes in the evening is absolutely dreadful though, but that's for another thread. I couldn't listen to him in his old slot either but seemingly he did have his fans.

Yeah was thinking the same thing, he used to do it and it wasn't that long ago.

I still like the show but I think Nicky is trying too hard with the forced laughter. But they're doing well, fair play to them.

Must say I was sceptical at first but I'm really enjoying this show.
Nicky and Jenny have great chemistry and both come across a very likeable.

Now, if only they had left Will Leahy in the drivetime slot....

The show should be very "interesting" today with nicky on his todd. Who's. Gonna show him what buttons to press? I predict lots of music and very few bits.

He's nominated for two radio awards as far as I know.

I know this isnt the Jenny Greene show thread but listened to the electric disco show tonight and had a Twitter converstion with Her. My God she is a brilliant DJ and comes across as such a nice person. 2fm are blessed to have her in the station.

We were flicking around the radio in work (we couldn't handle anymore chatter from AK & JD) and they stupidly put on 2fm.
I noticed that Nicky is doing a thing called a "Ten Minute Takeover". Is this not a copy (in most part) of the Greg James slot on BBC Radio 1.

That would be a yes , 2fm last had an original idea in about 1987.

    Madness.

I wanted to give the show another chance, and I don't doubt that Nicky might be a nice guy, but he's not good on the radio.

    - Constant name dropping and VOs from 'celebs'
    - Cutting songs off early talking
    - Forced reading from notes
    - No pace to his speech

No, it's not very good. Also, Jenny is far more accomplished broadcaster, yet gets relegated to "The Nicky Byrne Show, with Jenny Green".
    Poor show, with no structure.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 637 ✭✭✭Rabbo

I'd disagree. While Nicky isn't a very polished presenter, it seems to add to his charm.
He is a likeable guy and Jennys more professional presenting helps to ground him.
