100 days of Loungers happiness

    Inspired by http://www.100happydays.com/ - this a thread for all of the #100daysofhappiness inspired social media posts, or if you wish, your own place to be happy.

    What is it? (Shamelessly copied from the happy website)
    What?
    We live in times when super-busy schedules have become something to boast about. While the speed of life increases, there is less and less time to enjoy the moment that you are in. The ability to appreciate the moment, the environment and yourself in it, isthe base for the bridge towards long term happiness of any human being.

    71% of people tried to complete this challenge, but failed quoting lack of time as the main reason.These people simpy did not have time to be happy. Do you?
    How? Plain simple!
    every day submit a picture of what made you happy!

    It can be anything from a meet-up with a friend to a very tasty cake in the nearby coffee place, from a feeling of being at home after a hard day to a favor you didto a stranger.

    #100happyday challenge is for you - not for anyone else.
    It is not a happiness competition or a showing off contest. If you try to please / make others jealous via your pictures - you lose without even starting. Same goes for cheating.
    Why would I do that?

    People successfully completing the challenge claimed to:
    - Start noticing what makes them happy every day;
    - Be in a better mood every day;
    - Start receiving more compliments from other people;
    - Realize how lucky they are to have the life they have;
    - Become more optimistic;
    - Fall in love during the challenge.

    Even when the challenge is over the collected 100 happy moments can always remind you about the beauty of your life. For that, you can receive a little 100 page book with your 100 happy daysat the finish line of the challenge!

    I'm starting the challenge on the 1st March. I'll be using my new, dedicated twitter page, @sullivlo, to share my happiness with the world.

    My preview of happiness is this first tweet:
    #100DaysOfHappiness Preview: I just learned how to do a # and a € on my laptop. Three years later.

    and my motivation to do it is:
    Motivation: To make a conscious effort to be happy and to make time every day to appreciate everything life has to offer #100daysofhappiness

    I've signed up too. I decided I might as well start today! I'm hoping it'll be good for my mental health, which hasn't been the best of late.

    The more the merrier! I think the overall aim is to acknowledge happiness daily for 100 days, and then you won't have to make a conscious effort after a while :)

    I'm up for this! Gonna start on Saturday on my twitter @beautybrushup :)

    I based an English class on a website similar to this idea called 365grateful.com which is a photo a day of the things for which you're grateful for 365 days. I'm going to start tomorrow. I think it's a brilliant idea.

    I think the fact that people don't finish the 100 days is misrepresented. Surely people don't have time to register the happy moment, rather than they don't have time to be happy. :confused:

    I guess it can be good for people to focus on the good times rather than be negative, and maybe I'm lucky that I can't think of the last time I was unhappy! :)

    But half the battle is noticing when you are happy, really acknowledging it. Its also about what makes you happy, as opposed to happiness being the absence of unhappiness...

    First photo taken of me fella. Going to carry my camera (just a normal compact one) about from now on so I can snap on the go. My head was racing with all the things I would include.

    Okay. For me, the challenge begins today. I could be lame and post the photo of the screenshot of my phone this morning when I realised it was Saturday and I didn't have to get up, but I can be more creative I'm sure ;)

    Ok I'm not really good with the whole social networking thing, is Instagram like Twitter?

    I'm going to do my own version - I bought a new notebook yesterday (I LOVE stationery) and I'm going to note down one thing that made me laugh, one that made me smile and one thing I achieved/am proud of every day.

    Instagram is like twitter for photos.

    What b and c said. I can't cope with Twitter, everytime I log in I get overwhelmed by all the tweets. Instagram is just photos

    I've followed the Twitter accounts mentioned in here (in case ye were wondering who just followed ye.)

    I'm not doing this though. I think my happiness is to delicate to be aiming for 100 days, but I'll still be cheering the people who are doing it on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,994 ✭✭✭sullivlo

    I've just posted the first thing that made me happy.

    5 litre bottles of franks hot sauce. For the fattie in me :)

    I took a picture of a squirrel while I was out jogging this morning. I love squirrels!

    squirrel-up-dog-gif.gif

    I've set up a twitter account with my boards username if anyone wants to follow it, seemed easier than instagram!

    (EDIT - I wasn't sure if I should post the picture here, because other people don't seem to be?)

    I started mine yesterday but I'm just writing in a notebook as I think it's private. Yesterday's was a lovely gem of schadenfreude, for example, which I don't think everyone would appreciate. ;-)

    I've followed the twitter names on here (I'm not on Instagram). I'm @snugglor

    I've two days done but it's the weekend so it's easy. Going to work and keeping it up will be a challenge.

    I'll probably Tweet the individual submissions as well. @dutchesslinda is me.

    Finally started!

    Only because I got a pressie in the post delivered to my desk. I'd marry her if she had a willy <3

    Weeeellllllllll

    It's a very cute teddy :P

    Yes sorry! My friend who showered me with little gifts for no reason whatsoever :)

    On my 4th day. My hubby and my best friend in the Netherlands started last Monday too. Today something happened that I can't really put into a picture. This woman came up to me to tell me how quintessentially Dutch she finds me and how she imagines me in traditional Dutch clothing, clogs and all and then we had another bit of a chat where she invited me to something that's on here in the company tomorrow saying how she'd really like to see me there. Sort of weird maybe but she meant it as a big compliment and was generally very friendly and open without any particular reason. I'm not really used to that from people so it gave me a bit of faith in humanity.

    So yes, couldn't really ask her if I could take her picture so today will probably end up being a picture of food XD

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,994 ✭✭✭sullivlo

    Maybe take a picture of something quintessentially Dutch such as a clog, a tulip or a chip cone? ;)

    That's a big step today. I hesitate to say "well done" to you because it was the woman, but you're obviously putting in the work generally to illicit such a response so, eh, well done? :) I am happy that things are working out for you, and that faith in humanity is being restored :)

    Or stroopwafels! They're easy enough to get over here now. Since living with two Dutch people in college I can't call them anything else now.

    I call them stroopwafflen. With the N at the end. I don't know why.

    Oh what a lovely happy thread :)

    My Twitter is full of work contacts and boring news updates, and I'm not a big Instagrammer, so perhaps I may post a happy pic or two here if the thought occurs to me...

    Here's one I took last night. I spent the evening making cards for terminally ill children as part of a charity endeavour a good friend is involved in.
    You read a few of the kids' biogs from the charity website and draw/write a personalized card suited to a few of them.

    It was incredibly humbling and a bit upsetting to read the overwhelmingly sad predicaments the poor little sweethearts are facing, but I also got to drink wine, feel grateful, catch up with friends and re-discover my childhood :)

    I can't take a picture of my happy thing yesterday (so I cheated with a logo), but I spent nearly two hours on a group call with my five best friends last night, including one who lives in Vancouver and one who's moved the the opposite side of Ireland. It was fab. Between Skype and Viber it never feels like they're too far away :)

    I wasn't taking a picture of my payslip or my bank account but my happy thing today was payday. My first proper employed person payment.

    Hello Loungers!

    My class have to do an assembly for all the other year 7s (11/12) the week we come back after easter holidays. I've decided to base it on the 100 days of happiness challenge! Has anyone seen any good videos about this that we can show to start it off? They'll have about 15 mins to do their bit.

    I was thinking of getting them to show off their talents during it, or have them doing the things that make them happy, what do we think Loungers??

    (God, I'm so bad at this stuff!! :o)

    I hate doing assemblies!! We had to do culture, and I ended up hiding, can never watch it - to be fair the girls did really well and the head of year said it was good.

    If you can't get a video, maybe make a video using the info on the website and some pictures from other people's projects. Maybe set it up as a roleplay, with a student as the teacher, and challenging others on the stage about it, then have the students do/show things that make them happy, and taking a picture of it.

    I got two beautiful new guinea pigs!

    boys.jpg

    Look at their faces. I'm in love <3 The white one is Tobias and the brown one is Tyrion.

    One of my piggies died on Monday :( and his friend Gibbs was pining without another pig for company so I got two more to try and make a trio, but it didn't work out (Tobias was too full on for Gibbs and stressed him out), so now Tobias and Tyrion live next door to Gibbs where they can see, smell and touch noses through the bars but they can't fight. We're going to give it a few days to see if that's enough company for Gibbs or if he needs more than that.

    So I've resisted the urge to post every days happiness here but today I want to share.

    In a discussion in work yesterday I mentioned how I didn't get an Easter egg this year (very long story) but that I was okay with it (which I am) but I came in today and one of the girls had left an egg on my desk for me :)

    That's so thoughtful!

    I'm really proud of myself that I've gotten halfway. My worst fault (imo) is that I'm a divil for starting things and not seeing them through to the end. So here's to keeping it up for the next 50 days!
