Loads of boxing on this weekend with Ricky Burns taking on Terence Crawford in Scotland on sky sports.
In Germany its Stieglitz Abraham 3 and in the states its Chavez Jnr Vera 2 and Lomachenko goes for a world title in his second pro fight. These are on boxnation.

Be interesting to see if Chavez makes wieght and if Texus judges are needed again.

I've never seen Crawford but Ricky is def up against it with his last 2 performances and the fact that this guy is seen as being a step above Ricky makes it even tougher.

I can see some more panicked last minute phone calls to once again get Vera to agree to a higher weight as it sounds like Chavez Jr. is struggling once again.

What is the undercard of the Burns - Crawford like as Sky/Matchroom have done a great job so far this year

John Simpson against John Murray on the undercard which could be a belter! Joshua is on it as well. Not sure who else!

Crawford on points at 6/4 is what my money will be on!

Crawford on points is a banker.

I've seen Crawford and he's very skilled, very relaxed but he's not a particularly big puncher and Ricky has a very good chin and excellent conditioning. I'll be putting a fair few bob on this one.

I think it's Lomachenko's to lose. He is far quicker in all areas. This is key. Faster feet and hands and faster all around movement. Excellent tight hand defence too. Pivots so brilliantly. But, he can be lazy at times with not letting the hands go. He can't afford to be close and not busy, because Salido can bang. Salido is very rugged and has very good stamina. Great test for Lomachenko, and one I am really looking forward to.

It's a fairly prominent test for his second pro-bout. Salido is tough as they come in fairness. While he can box a bit and has power I simply can't see him finding Lomachenko, it'll either be a straight points win or else Salido's people will throw in the towel at some stage.

Who is offering that 6/4 Crawford pts?

    7/4 Ladbrokes.

James DeGale is facing Gevorg Khatchikian on Channel 5 at 9.10 on Saturday night too. I imagine they'll probably show Lee Haskins too.

I really think Lomachenko is in for a tough night. I expect it to go the distance and the Ukranian to win, but with his style (he's not a classic stand-up boxer type like Mikey Garcia), he's going to be up close and in Salido's range quite a lot, which is exactly what the Mexican wants. It's going to be rough and I agree that he sometimes waits to long to let his hands go and having never fought more than 5 rounds, he's unlikely to increase his punch output so as to be sure he lasts the full 12. It's definitely a very interesting matchup.

Salido didn't make weight. Vacant title and Lomachenko gets 15k.
    Chavez did make weight though.

Can Lomachenko become Champ with a win?

He can indeed. Salido can't though, understandably. It seems he missed weight by 2.5lbs and wasn't even that bothered. Seemed happy enough to leave it at that and just take the financial penalty.

Even with his amazing pedigree, it will still be very impressive if Lomachenko actually pulls this off. It's been 14 years since someone stopped Salido and he's faced a lot of top competition in the meantime. Loma's basically an amateur going in with as hardened a veteran as you're going to get, and he's quite possibly going to have to spend 12 long rounds fighting that man to get the victory. He's the better boxer by a considerable distance, but he's in with a real fighter now.

I think Vasyl's body attacks could be the key to his winning. Salido not making weight doesn't instil confidence in me. Lack of drive and focus, or too difficult a job? Either way it's not ideal for him.

First upset of the year with Badou Jack KO'D in the first round with a beautifully timed counter. That should be interesting on Degale's fight tonight as he might be elevated to mandatory for the WBC if he gets the win.

I think Burns needs to jump on Crawford if he has any chance of winning.Otherwise, stylistically this could be horrible to watch but there's some good fights on that undercard which will solve that.

Reading that he is still likely to be in a final eliminator (possibly against the chap who beat Jack last night) Either way I hope DeGale takes care of business tonight. He is a bit of a forgotten man at the moment

Dan Rafael reporting that if Chavez and Golovkin win their next fights they could meet later in the year.
    I wouldn't mind seeing that.

Simpson - Murray has just started, expecting this to be a war.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

Or an easy night for Murray. :pac: He's just too big and strong for Simpson.

Over! Body shots end it in the second.

Very comfortable but pretty impressive from Murray.

Anyone know what time James DeGale getting in the ring. Tuned in channel 5.

Gevorg Khatchikian (no idea) but he is unbeaten

The boxing has started on Channel 5.

De Gale on the way to the ring now.

Joshua up next, another tomato can but looking forward to it. Think he's going all the way to the top.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,317 ✭✭✭HigginsJ

DeGale walking to the ring. Great that it won't clash with the Burns fight

Joshua coming out to 500 miles!

Good way to get a Scottish crowd on your side! :D

Joshua reminds me of balrog from Street Fighter. Google it

DeGale up 4-0. Should be getting this guy out of there if he puts a few combos together

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

He's a class act, inside and outside the ring.

Credit where it's due this guy can take a punch. If DeGale wasn't so focused on trying to land single KO punch it would help

DeGale is bit frustrating to watch tonight. He is very comfortable though

The Groves fight aside I've always found it a bit of a chore watching DeGale.

Pardon the obvious pun but he really is a golden ticket for Hearn.

DeGale in a bit of trouble in the last round. Took a few good shots. 6-1 imo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,317 ✭✭✭HigginsJ

    Much better from DeGale there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,317 ✭✭✭HigginsJ

DeGale combos are putting this guy in trouble but he is so rarely throwing more than single punches

Sounds like DeGale alright! All the talent in the world but always seems to be holding back.

Caught the end of it there! Nice body shots to stop him.

Perfect timing. Would love to see Burns do this but short of some shocking judging I can't see it
