Action gets underway in Cali on Wednesday

    Full programme here

    Irish interest:

Martyn Irvine defending his World Championship in the Scratch race on Thursday, as well as taking part in the Pursuit with Ryan Mullen (also on Thursday), with the Points race on Friday

Caroline Ryan in the Scratch (Wednesday), Pursuit (Friday) and Points race (Saturday)

The BBC will be showing live coverage on the red button, with highlight shows on Saturday and Sunday on BBC 1

You can also get live timing information on Tissot

Although this is a multi day event, using spoiler tags on track meetings tends to be quite challenging given the rapid turnaround between events. Hence for this thread Spoiler Tags are not required, but let's keep all comments in the one thread and don't mention any "current-day" information elsewhere

Let's hope this year's racing is as exciting and productive as last year's

Ryan and Druytz attacking with 5 to go

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,526 ✭✭✭✭Darkglasses

Ryan caught, Druytz was not. Awfully close to being a medal for Ireland!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,561 ✭✭✭Eamonnator

    Tough.

Ryan was right to attack, when she did. It might have worked.
She raced really well, prominent, all race.

Yeah for sure, really unlucky not to medal. Druyts had a much stronger finish though

Druyts, stronger all right, and cute with it.
Have we any more interest tonight?
I just happened on this by chance.

To be clear, it's the Mullen variety, not Caroline...

Great perfomance 4m 22.491s, which must be a PB by quite a margin he goes against ....

....Mark Ryan of NZL in the bronze medal race overnight, who was only 0.6s faster in qualifying

Martyn Irvine may be a bit disappointed with his 12th place (seems to have faded), but can at least focus on the scratch final tonight

Saw that Martyn was up there after 2 k but faded between 2-3 k, here hoping he gives it socks later.
So impressed with Ryan Mullen at his first Worlds at the age of only 19....

Credit's got to go to Brian Nugent - I know Martyn Irvine has benefited enormously from having Andy Sparks as his coach, but Brian has been working with the whole team and Ireland really has been punching above its weight in track cycling over the past couple of years. I suspect we may see one or two more youngsters coming through over the next year or two - now if only they had a proper facility to train in ....

Irvine a silver in the scratch! dont know how the race went but any medal after his injury problems in such a short space of time is pretty amazing!

    Caroline Ryan 6th in the pursuit - 3m 37.847s

Martyn's back up in the pointe race some time in the middle of the night (around 1.30am I would guess, but the race itself will run for 35 minutes or so)

I've forgotten the rules to this one...Is it drink whenever there's a sprint lap, or drink when there's an attack? :pac:

Martyn's struggling to stay on the back of the peloton after a failed attempt to lap
