Something I was reading up about over the past few days. It seems like the official guidelines are set quite low around 200 microgrammes even though the Japanese on a high seafood/veg diet seem to get between 1-3 milligrams per day. at the other end of the scale there seems to be a small number of people recommending amounts well above 5 or 10mg a day but to be honest it sounds way over the top and well above what people would have received in any normal diet and possibly at the crackpot end of things. Anyway based on other advice by a doctor with a focus on diet issues suggests taking 3 to 6 Kelp supplements a day, the ones I bought have 200 micro/g each so Ive settled on taking 3 a day. It seems like whatever your view you wouldnt want to be deficient in Iodine. Any view on this.

good question, Im trying to improve my diet by looking at it from the various gland's requirements, liver, thyroid and adrenal grands. Iodine is related to thyroid function which affects metabolism and a deficiency could cause your metabolism to slow down.

Not to mention the benefits if Sellafield ever blows up.
