When you register for VAT do you get a certificate with your vat number?

I registered my business for vat and have the vat number. A UK company I'm dealing with are asking for a copy of my vat certificate. Does such a thing exist or are they applying British vat methods to Irish businesses?

You should have received a letter from Revenue quoting your VAT number, calling it a certificate might be a bit much. Failing that a VAT return notice might suffice.
