Query on xray

Had toothache last week so rang around, only one dentist could see me so off I went. He took an xray then said he'd have to wait for the results to come back. This was last Thursday :/ I haven't been to the dentist in a good few years but surely in this day and age a proper dentist should have the facility to view X-rays in the surgery there and then?

I went to another dentist the following day, xray again, he showed me the results instantly and set to work on the root canal immediately. A very professional surgery and a million miles from the shoddy surgery I was in the previous day. It shocked me how their can be such a difference in dental practices. Is there no requirement for dentists to keep up to date with equipment etc?

No, I was querying whether or not a reputable dentist would have xray facilities to view the results there and then. Something which I still don't know the answer to!

Have you considered contacting the first dentist about the x-ray?

Both dentists had the ability to develop and read the X-rays immediatly (all dentists do) the first one however didnt have the time.

He genuinely didn't have the ability. He told me himself that he had to send them away. Got a phonecall from him a few days ago with the results.
I was just a bit concerned given the state of the practice, no reception , no dental nurse etc. Nobody else waiting to go in either before or after me!
Plus he was in his early 70's I'd say. I just got a bad feeling from the place and won't be going back.

Sounds to me like there was an issue with the X-ray developer. Before we switched over to digital we had a film developer machine which took approx 30 mins to heat to correct temperature after being switched on, then another 10 mins to develop the first X-ray. Long time to keep the pt waiting so I can see why Dentist may have said to Kaiser that he would contact him with results. Other possibility is that chemicals needed to be changed and he was waiting on delivery.
