hip problem

Hi. I've been having a bit of a problem with my hip for the last couple of years. I am currently awaiting an appointment with an orthopedic consultant, but all I've gotten so far a couple of letters to ask me if I want to be removed from the waiting list or continue to wait.

Anyway I'm here to see if you guys are familiar with the symptoms and have any advice as to what course of action I should be looking to take.

Now I am perfectly fine when I am going around my daily life (my job is sedentary) and I can cycle with no problems at all. My problems start when I go walking.I reckon my limit is about the half mile mark. After this the soreness starts and then my hip gets very tight to the point where I can only bend it slightly and then to the point where I just drag it straight. The pain is mostly to the outside and front of the hip.If I stop for a few minutes it loosens out and I can walk some more, although this time it tightens and gets sore much sooner.. When I get home it is very painful to bend the hip to sit down. But again within a few minutes it loosens out and the soreness/pain goes. I used to be able to walk for miles without a problem.

I would be grateful if any of you can identify with this and/or have any advice of what to do or whom I should consult while awaiting the consultants visit.

Hope I have posted in the correct forum. Mods please move if not.

    Thanks.

Visit a physio. You'll get seen immediately and they'll have a much better idea on what the problem is compared to us.

Thanks for the reply. Yes you could be right. I may need to get it examined. Still curious to see if anyone else had similar symptoms and what it turned out to be.

I'm afraid that Chucky is on the money. Any half decent physio will be able to loosen up the area and give you exercises to do yourself. TBH - it's very odd in my mind that you're going to see a consultant without a tightness in the hip area having been ruled out. If it is just tight/short muscles then the consultant will just likely refer you on to a physio which seems to me to be the wrong way around.

Im afraid I have to close this thread, medical advice is not allowed, and someone elses symptoms and diagnosis are not YOUR symptoms and diagnosis.
