No it's not prescription only but be prepared to play 20 questions with the chemist when asked for. Tell them to try run 26 odd miles with a dodgy "insert limb here" and if panadol helps!

No but you've to have a chat to the pharmacist about getting it first.

No you don't need a prescription for nurofen plus just go into chemist and ask for a pack you will probably be asked why do you want them ? have you tried paracetmol ? also if you ask for solpadeine its the same questions

Paracetamol + ibuprofen (neurofen standard) often gives better analgesic affects then neurofen plus does alone. Makes the plus kinda worthless and you don't need to play 20 questions to get it.

Thanks all. Someone suggested it (have tried all usuals, paracetamol) but was wondering what the status is if I go in and ask for it

My local chemist does pots of generic ibuprofen for a fraction of the price of neurofen too, dunno if they have generic plus version, but not really a good buy as you mention.

In some chemists you have to ask for the generics, while the others can be on the shelf.

It is commonly used for hangovers so many chemists can be reluctant to give it if you look in bits going in!

Some doctors will give a prescription just so you get it without 20 questions, my dentist began writing one for me and I told him not to bother as I had loads. The cynic in my thinks they might be mates with the chemist too, a guy i work was given a scrawled script for his daughter, the chemist came out took N+ off the shelf behind a locked glass window thing and then tried to charge him an extra €6 dispensing fee (or some sort of fee like it was a prescription only drug)

I can buy a generic brand ibuprofen+codine (ie neurofen plus) in most chemists. So it definitely exists.

You can buy it in pharmacies, but you will be met with a couple of routine questions.. "is it for yourself" and what is it for.. nothing too taxing!

Did you ask in them? often the generics are not on view. Also I would ask someone who looks like they will know. In my local chemist there are 2 older women at least 1 of whom is probably a pharmacist, the rest are young girls wandering around like its a hair salon. I remember one asking if I needed help and asked a simple enough question and she just looked blankly, its easier for staff to save face say "no we don't have it" rather than "I have no idea what you are on about and will have to ask my superior (who will also be amazed at my ignorance)"

Yes I asked for the cheapest ibuprofen. I tried 1 pharmacy in marino, 2 in fairview and a number of them in the city centre. Ended up paying €7.69 for 48 x 200mg ibubrofen in boots. Absolutely crazy when I can get 84 x 400mg ibuprofen from the uk pharmacies for about £2.49. Prices I have found here are appox 10 times that of the UK. Would be glad of recommendations on cheaper options for Irish pharmacies as I don't want to order from the UK.
