Think of the money you're saving by not having to fork out for chocs, flowers and dinner.

Its only a big deal if you think it is. All in the head.

I'm single, couldn't give a flying whatsit that tomorrow is whatsit.

You could buy a blow up doll and bring her out for a meal and then take her to the movies. Ya never know, play your cards right, your in there.

Ah sure it'll be like any other day of the week. Fairly run of the mill stuff.

Be thankful you don't also have White Day, which is the 14th of March in Japan. Only girls give presents on Valentine's Day, and the guys are supposed to return things to the value of 3 times the original gift on White Day.

It's called White Day so that the guys can't just regift the original (milk) chocolate, and have to buy white chocolate.

That sounds like a pretty poor substitute for Steak and Blowjob day.

My hubby and I have been together for 19 years, got together in first year in college during rag week, just happened to be on the night of Feb 13th, but after midnight, not that either of us noticed this at the time :o It also happens that neither of us has ever had any time for Vally day. We are so unromantic that we didn't even get married til 3 years ago, as it suited for tax purposes at the time.

Just happens though, that I've been feeding my dog raw food for the past year, and supply has been more difficult recently. So last weekend we got a new, big freezer for our shed to store more supply, so I don't have to drive to get the stuff so often. I'd ordered some to collect early this week, not as much as if I'd been sure of getting the new freezer, but a decent load of duck necks and hearts, just the same.

After I came in from bagging the stuff up and putting it in the new freezer though, hubby informed me I'd just gotten a spectacular Valentine gift: a freezer with a thousand little hearts in it :D

No it's not, its the feast day of a saint, could be one of several Valentines actually, one of whom married couples in love illegally. It also has similarities to an old Roman holiday.

I don't understand this hatred towards Valentines Day. If you don't like it, ignore it. If it makes you angry and bitter, you could use some love in your life and I'd like to send you a card.

I sent a card to my sister, I love to give cards and think its nice to recieve them, I'll use any excuse! Just so she knows I care!

I know a few couples who are purposely avoiding each other today incase someone suspects they may want to celebrate Valentines Day! Whats the point in that? Me and my boyfriend are going out for lunch and to the cinema, something we do all the time anyway, but we have the day off so may aswell spend it together!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,635 ✭✭✭Pumpkinseeds

Don't take it so seriously OP, my husband and I ignore it and have done for years, I think a lot of couples don't bother with it either. It's just a marketing ploy to fill the commercial gap between Christmas and Easter.

Was never that pushed about it when single or now. We don't really bother with it but I usually get my missus a card and a little present each from our two little boys.

That said, I'd hate if I was with somebody that really expected you to go full out: restaurant and all that stuff just because it's valentines night. A random night or your anniversary is much nicer for that.

Took me 20 minutes to struggle out of the house there over the pile of cards.

Jeez, all the hate. I'm not a massive fan of the day, but you can always ignore it, or go do your own thing.

I have a bf, but have told him not to get me anything. We were supposed to go out today, as is our usual Friday thing, but he was called into work, so we'll go out on Sunday.

My sisters and mam are all single for today. My mam was quite upset about it, mainly because her marriage only broke down on Sunday. So i got her a present (chocolates, flowers and a teddy) and got my sisters chocolates and flowers. They don't like being single on valentine's day, so I managed to cheer them up by making sure someone who loves them gave them a gift.

Fcukers didn't get me anything

tbh I think its the best

most married/hooked up people allow themselves to be forced into some gesture or expense that otherwise they probably wouldn't have done.

just like all these other made up, commercialised evetns, people would be far better off ignoring it and doing such thigns when they feel like it/spontaneously

Ah OP, would you just let it go.

This is the one day of the year, that those of us lucky enough to have a partner, can express our love.

Everything will be back to normal tomorrow and for the next 364 days. We'll be back out in the pub with the lads watching the football tomorrow and she will be back at home making the dinner for when we stagger in.

I don't really mind Valentines day in the way its meant to be, couples and all that etc.

What really annoys me is the all the sh1te that people either put up on Facebook or text or whatever that just generally wishes people a happy valentines day :mad: PI55 OFF, thats not how it works!!!:mad::mad:

It's really not. He left his job recently and is broke. I'd rather he keeps his money for seeing his mates than spend it on me. I'm indifferent about valentine's day anyway.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,635 ✭✭✭Pumpkinseeds

I've nothing against it, some people enjoy Valentine's day, I'm not one of them. But one thing I find really silly is when I read of someone saying that they've told their other half not to buy them anything as money is tight, but then they go on to say all the things they've got for their partner. Now, if my husband and I had agreed to skip it, which we always do, but he then produced gifts for me I'd honestly be seriously p*ssed off, as I'd have gotten nothing for him.

If you're going to celebrate it fine, if you don't celebrate it fine, but for Jesus sake, don't buy gifts when you've told your partner not to, it just makes them feel cheap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,264 ✭✭✭✭jester77
