Arrived back from doing deliveries for my business at 3.30 to discover some scumbag had ran into the office and grabbed my cashbox and my business partners handbag.
I am now down €500+, I have to get all the locks replaced, she has to cancel all her cards, get the house locks replaced, get a new drivers licence, and have the locks on her car replaced as they have her keys and address.
To top it all off the Gardaí don't know when or if they will get here despite us having the **** on CCTV which they could have used.
    Really feel like giving up!

Look on the bright side OP, you can feign amusement when the inevitable "Found a cashbox" thread appears.

    Every cloud...

If it helps you feel better the money will inevitably be used to buy substances which will shorten said scumbags life.

By coincidence I was reading a thread earlier about a chap who had footage of thieves breaking into his house but he was forced to take it down from a public website because ""the images that are captured on film are personal data"

Man who captured thieves on film forced to remove footage from website

    Bad buzz

Karma'll get them in the end

I don't get that. Surely someone would have to make a complaint to the data commissioner. Then they'd have 'em for the robbery, no?

It doesn't work like that apparently but it should.

Apologies. I've been without electricity. I'm a day behind the rest of the world.

The footage is held by the management of the industrial estate.
To be honest it is not the financial cost that's eating me up most , its the fact that a woman who has been working since she was 14 is now afraid to be left alone in a business she jointly owns and into which she sank most of her life savings, and all because of some lowlife that probably never worked a day in his life.

I know this is going to sound harsh OP but why are you leaving a cash box containing €500 lying around in an unlocked office so that any any scumbag can run in and grab it. Clearly it's asking for trouble.

Perhaps a review of security arrangements would be in order so that your partner can be reassured.

Really hope they catch the scumbag but I hate when it's made easy for them.

Yes I think my business partner, a woman in her late 50's should have fought the bastard for the money:rolleyes:
Get real, some customers pay us in cash, what would you expect her to do?

Maybe have some security arrangements in place where cash is locked away so that scumbags can't just wander in and steal it.

You can roll all the eyes you want but perhaps you might want to consider your practices first.

How is anything I have said sanctimonious? You haven't disputed any of it. You have merely attempted to hurl abuse while refusing to accept any responsibility for you own lack of security awareness.

I sympathise with your situation and certainly derive no pleasure from it. I am merely suggesting that this could be avoided with a little better planning.

Or did you just want to come onto boards and have a good old rant?

Hey I'm just trying to be helpful. R&R is the place for venting. Jumping down the throats of posters isnt gonna do anything but get the thread locked.

Keep going like your going and I'll have little pity for you too. Just because you've had a shít day doesnt give you the right to be a dick to everyone else.

I going to venture away from the typical AH responses because, we'll, I'm an adult.

OP what business do you have? perhaps it's a business or industry some of us use and we can actually use yours. It might get help you and your business partner back some of the money but also restore her faith in people.

This is somehow the most Irish thread I've ever seen

I think someone deleted their post before mine, because this was on the front homepage. I didn't look at the date.

Anyway, apologies for making you read something that was a whole 2 weeks old. Let's hug it out

Sorry to. Hear OP. I know the thread is a few weeks old, but the bad feeling of having goods stolen, and break-in doesn't go in two weeks. Had my house done twice and the Gardai did sweet fcuk all about it.

    No it couldn't.

Maybe the cash end of it but the guy would still have took the woman's handbag and who knows, had they not got the €500 cash, maybe they would have assaulted the woman in an effort to demand she unlock the safe were the cash was stored.

Maybe if the door was locked he's have turned into liquid and oozed underneath it

One guy ran in and grabbed what he could, its now turning into a gang assaulting and holding people hostage demanding safes be opened. :D

Was his business partner supposed to have locked herself in the office in case this happened to be the day that a scumbag decided to hold her up?

I guess all shops should lock their doors and just serve people through security windows?

Some people really do seem to get some sort of perverted pleasure out of being a d*ck to people who've have some bad luck,

Looks to me like some people just cant discuss anything with an ounce of reason on here.

Nobody in this thread in any way shape or form has been a dick to the OP. One person had the gall to suggest it might be advisable to look into security given someone literally ran in, picked up a box of cash containing his days takings and legged it.

I'd give the OP a bit of leeway for reacting in an unreasonable way considering he was upset at the time. You and all the rest though are just looking for something to get upset about. As I implied in my last post its delving into the realms of fantasy now to try and keep up the outrage at what was simple reasonable advise..

Maybe we should start a condolence forum for people to go and get pats on the back when they are upset so discussion doesnt get in the way of the circle jerking ??

From the OP and from his subsequent posts it's fairly evident that the office was open for business, and that his business partner was in the premises.
Suggestions for better security precautions are one thing - comments like

"why are you leaving a cash box containing €500 lying around in an unlocked office"

"Maybe have some security arrangements in place where cash is locked away so that scumbags can't just wander in and steal it."

"someone literally walked into your office and wandered off with a box of money"

"you own lack of security awareness."

"Maybe if the door was locked he's have turned into liquid and oozed underneath it"

    are the height of dickishness.

Replace "cash box" with "till" in the OP's case.
It's the equivalent of a scumbag walking into a shop and taking the contents of the till.
Blaming the OP or his business partner is the equivalent of blaming shop staff when a junkie walks in and robs them.

OK seeing as neither you or the OP like is listening to common sense maybe you have some suggestions for him to prevent a recurrence? Maybe leave more cash lying around so that the scumbag won't take the employee's personal property?
