Didn't see a thread anywhere for this one. It's €15 (+ €0.90c) by 14th February, after which point it goes up to €20 (+ €0.90c).

    Registration: here
    Map: here

This race has rated pretty well in the past, though there are a lot of twists and turns on the course.

Took me a few seconds! The standard of proof-riding in this country is shicking!

Did this race a few years ago but can't remember if i got the number posted or picked it up before the race.

Cant find that info anywhere. I have a group going to do the run and need to get organised.

Anyone know what is the story?

    Cheers

number pickup is usually in the Mansion House morning of the race

Excellent race, well worth going to. Just on the twists and turns, can't say they hinder you much, I've seen plenty worse courses, its good and wide at all parts at least. Definitely a pb course in my view, maybe not the same potential as say rathfarmham but that does have a net downhill.

Hi there - I'm a bit of a noob at these things... is there a bag-drop facility?

There was 2 years ago, but it was a shed behind the Mansion House and the level of staff didn't look great. Its useful to have, but I wouldn't be leaving my smart phone in the bag.

Cheers - I'll take that on board and bring a case for my phone. All I'll have in the bag is a change of clothes for the blow-out brunch.
    Again, thanks for that!

Had course at 3.12 on my GPS- that said was net downhill and real fast.

First 5k of 2014 & beat my PB by 27secs, so first time sub 18 :D
It was flat and any uphill sections it seemed like the wind was on my back pushing me up.

Thanks to the organisers and volunteers for a very enjoyable well organised race. There's not too many city centre races and no others I know of that let you swan around in the mansion house afterwards!

Great race, superbly organised - can't be an easy feat to close down so many roads in the city centre so well done to the host club and all involved. Fast course too, delighted with my PB :)

I saw her in the queue for the toilets before hand. She was in a tizzy! Was trying to get to the loo at about 11:50 and there were huge queues so followed me into the disabled toilet when I beckoned her over. She mightn't have made the start line only for that :D
    She looked in amazing shape.

I've noticed that too. Even at her age she could easily be competitive at national level.

Yup. She's flying right now. I had her by a couple secs in Raheny but she beat me by 10secs today- just looks so smooth etc. Trashed Michelle McGee(Sis Pearse) and a pretty decent female field. Guess class never goes away.

to be honest I'd expect that.....she was one of the best in the world in her twenties and thirties, so I'd still expect her to be one of the best in Ireland in her forties if she trains for it....same as Sonia I'd imagine....or Roy Keane could still be playing for Ireland if he wanted to I'd guess.

Having said that, its a real buzz for your joe soap runner to be lining up alongside her.

Did you by any chance cut the curbs? I noticed a fair bit of that going on. My GPS tracklog is so horrifically inaccurate (zoom in) that I couldn't trust the length or mile-splits. I'm guessing that most other peoples GPS tracklogs will be similarly inaccurate (particularly with that U-turn bend). Races that take place surrounded by tall buildings are not good GPS-watch material. Why don't you post yours and we can take a look?

Yep, working now. If you zoom in on your tracklog, you'll see that:
You turned back on the U-Turn around 5m before we actually did on the course (10m shortcut).
You barely ran on Pembroke Street at all
You cut corners on Fitzwilliam Square
You ran through a building into Herbert Street
You took a chunk off, by running through the Eye and Ear Hospital
Joining Pembroke Street for the second time, you ran through several buildings taking a good chunk off the course, before staggering drunkenly to the finish line.

Not suggesting that you did any of the above things, just pointing out that GPS signals are just not reliable on courses which are surrounded by tall buildings. I've seen the same thing in Berlin marathon, New York marathon, Chicago marathon. Unfortunately, until these devices get more accurate, we just have to trust in the official course measurers, or go back afterwards with a measuring wheel or a Jones Counter.

Had a great race today. Kudos to the organisers and marshals who put it all together.

As Krusty said, the garmin was reading short but looking at the track log it's easy to spot where it had trouble. I'm very happy that my shiny new PB was run on a properly measured course, thank you! :D:cool:

World best for 5k track over 40 is 15.20.....over 45 is 15.55... Catherina is 44 I think. So to an outsider , she clearly seems to be doing a bit more than casual training. Will be interesting to see if she might be tempted by the marathon. I think she would go close to 2.30 still.

True, not suggesting that the course was short. My friends garmin had it at 4:82 .

The buildings would explain the bruises though.

As someone said earlier, always difficult to get a good track with so many high buildings about but on average it was pretty accurate.

To be honest, I'm not sure that it was long, short, or exactly right. My watch recorded it slightly short, but I know that my watch doesn't record exactly what I run (my tracklog has me running through so many buildings I'm changing my username to Wreck it Ralph). I've plenty of first-hand experience with the limitations of consumer GPS devices in built-up areas though, and just know that they cannot be trusted in an environment such as this one. We will no doubt get a dozen more reports of a short course before Paddy has been put to rest, but we can only hope that the course was officially measured. I believe I spotted one of the official AAI course measurers on the course as I ran the race, so hopefully that's the case. GPS watches must be the bane of their lives.

Hi there - I managed to find my chip time from the results pinned up on the wall yesterday. But are the results available anywhere online? Tried the club's website (msbac.ie) but the results seem to be a few weeks out of date. Is there another resource I can try?

I have a friend who would have an aneurysm if he read this. As well as the known errors with GPS watches. Google Maps, OpenStreetMap and bing maps also have limitations as these maps are projected into long/lat coordinates so they can be read by joe soaps like us. These projections have some mathematical loss so there is an error in their display. So in essence the trace may actually be OK but the maps may be the issue!

Well done yesterday by the way, great stuff.

Sure, but looking at the tracklogs in isolation of the maps, you can see the large amount of error/inaccuracy. This is greater than your typical race, as almost the entire race takes place surrounded by tall (by Irish standards!) buildings.

I didn't realize that this was the only change. I measured the race using off-line mapping tools and it comes out at 5km. However, comparing just the start/finish of the routes used in 2009 and 2014, I get approximately a 50m difference (2009 being longer). But again, it's hard to determine exact placement of start/finish areas, whether the original 2009 route was long and if the start/finish areas were at different places or moved during the race. Best solution would be for someone in MSB to find out if the course was officially measured and if the start/finish area was located as per the measurer's instructions.

Id say its highly unlikely that a race of this stature, organised by a reputed club and backed by the AAI was not measured correctly. Times were fast for sure but a favourable course (slight downhill as opposed to steep down hills) with a favourable tailwind and a deep quality field probably accounts for the fast times. John Travers ran 14:07 which is quality but not unbelievable for an athlete of his ability. McKeirnans time came as a surprise but with her pedigree maybe nothing should shock. Britton ran as well as youd expect, if she was giving it a proper go, which she had to do considering the oppostion. Il be entering this one next year myself I think as it seems like a pb course on a good day.
