Very tempted to pull the trigger on this. Has anyone any feedback on this? Is it worth it etc?

Their is cheaper versions but for simplistic all round features and options this is probably most popular.

Large thread on the spec: http://www.boards.ie/ttfthread/2056793518

It does have a service charge of €36 a year for the SIM card which is off putting for some, doesn't work over WLAN yet.

there are lots of cheaper alternatives to climote, i am sure they have been discussed on bargain alerts before but i cant find them now.

this is probably most popular in Ireland.

it does cost about €44 a year in charges.

the likes of Tado and when NEST launch in Europe seem to be better. they take in to account outside temperature and adjust accordingly as well as sense if the house is empty. they have no reoccurring costs.

Also i believe that their are limitations with climote with regards setting different temperature through out the day and night.

Personally i'd hold of for 12 months as i can see prices drop due to competition and some more entrants with better functionality.

I've been using it for nearly 2 years and it's absolutely fantastic. It's so handy. You don't have to use the App if you don't want to. I usually just use a text message to switch the heat on and off. I love it!

    can you control the temperature?
i like to keep the house at a lower temp during the night when we are asleep. is this an option.

so say 21 deg C during the day and 15 deg C at night.

I'm not actually to sure about that. I've never needed to do that but I know if you rang them they would go through the whole thing with you. They are based in Dundalk and are very helpful.

Surely if you have been using it for 2 years you would know if you can set different temperatures.

if you can't then it would increase my bill

You can control temperature yes, but currently the temperature is taken at the unit itself, so kitchen etc or where ever you have it fitted. Their is new option of additional sensors to put around the house.

As for other cheaper options Im aware their is other options but for a lot of people this will suit them as its fool proof and can be used online, apps, sms etc and be used to record and compare usage from one month or year to another.

Does it display the Comparisons in relation to degree days?

Is it actual run time it compares? Or is it based on hours it's set to go on and ignores the times when the boiler is off because it's at temperature. What time intervals does it go down to?

There is no way, bar having a freezing gaff, of saving €500.00 a year in heating costs. To achieve this you have to save that amount plus the running costs of the unit. Not possible. Adding further sensors is adding to your initial capital cost with a lon, long payback time.

Can you post a similar system that does this please. I'm looking for something along the lines of climote too.

    Here's similar systems.

http://www.tado.com/de-en/this-is-tado you can rent or buy it and if you rent it and after 12 months you havn't saved money they'll give you back your money, or they'll credit you to buy it. this one uses external temperature to determine if it needs to come on and when to come on.

    i expect a UK/Irish version of this within 12 months: https://nest.com/thermostat/life-with-nest-thermostat/

    the neo looks intresting: http://neo.heatmiser.com/

now that Board Gais are being sold to British gas I expect the hive to be sold b them: http://www.britishgas.co.uk/products-and-services/hive-active-heating.html

    the neatmo looks intresting: http://www.netatmo.com/en-US/product/thermostat

none of these have a subscription like the climote, i have not used any of them. I expect the next 12 months to tell a lot.

Climote was also giving away free to people who subscribed to EI at the last ideal homes. they might do it again.

my Gas bill is about 600 a year, so the payback is't there to buy an expensive control system. i have to insulate first.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

    That's far from free!

EI are charging 19.3 cent per kWh according to your link
I've just changed to Energia and they are charging me 15.8 cent per kWh

Over that 2 year contract in your link that gives you the "free" climote, at the average 5,300 kWh used by Irish households, that's €371 they're charging for that climote
