would i still need the hd add on to receive all available hd

Looks to me like you should only be paying €96 per month. I have the same package as you have (apart from the sports which you'll be paying €16 per month for) and I'm paying exactly €80 per month.

Hd is included with the horizon bundle price.

But sound drops hugely when change channels from standard to hd but hd is meant to be better sound and picture quality. Upc installer told me its the price to pay for sharper picture quality

+1 Below is from my December bill, I have a Horizon box with HD so you need to tell them to drop the additional HD charge when you go to a Horizon bundle...

Your bundle includes Digital Telephony- Basic + Fibre Power Broadband 150Mb + UPC Digital + Digital Telephony - Anytime World Pack.

    Total UPC Bundle charges 80.00

For that price you should be on the max Horizon package with 200MB broadband.

The wireless settings on my laptop say the h/w is running at 130 Mb/sec so an upgrade from 150 to 200 will do nothing for me because clearly the Wi-Fi chip will be the bottleneck. My Ethernet adapter is 100 Mb/sec so a cable connection won't do anything for me either.

    No complaints though...

HD is included in Horizon Complete.

Whether or not you're in contract, or even if you didn't get a notice of a subscription price increase, you are still entitled to cancel your current contract if you say that you do not agree to the new telephone call charges. You should get on to 1908 account services, tell them you want to cancel & they should transfer you to customer loyalty/retentions/cancellations dept. Ask them what they are prepared to do for you in order to keep you as a customer. They may initially offer you a small discount, but if pushed should eventually offer you that package at €40 per month for 12 months like they have to others.

Have a look at this thread: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057131675

If you don't feel like trawling through it here are just two posters who were offered that deal & if you read the entire thread you'll find more:

If you've already ordered the new package just cancel it before you're 7 day cooling off period is up & insist on getting the half price offer.

This happened to me too, it turns out you need to have the sound from the UPC box set to maximum, and then control the actual volume with the TV or audio system. If you have the audio output from the UPC box set at 50% then it will jump from the set 50% to 100% when switching from a HD channel to an SD channel, or vice versa. I only discovered this after a UPC engineer told me the same as you.

Go to the Preferences setting on your UPC box and set the volume to max (or increase it to max using the UPC remote), then DON'T use the UPC remote to adjust the volume afterwards.

Turned out had faulty box, engineer replaced box and gave router seperate. Explains why wifi dropped alot and sound on HD dropping.
