Am I getting enough protein?

    Hi All,

    I was wondering if you could help me in with the above? I weight 206lbs and want to know what my ideal protein intake should be? I train with kettlebells, barbells (nothing heavy 35kgs max) and bodyweight exercises (plank, lunges, squats, press ups, get ups etc) 4 times a week.

    An average days food would be the following;

    Breakfast: Porridge

    Lunch: minced turkey with veg

    Snack: homemade flapjacks (porridge oats, almonds, honey, mixed dry fruit & peanut butter), fruit.

    Dinner: 1 or 2 fillets of whitefish with peas/beans, carrots, broccolli.

    I am wondering if I get enough protein from this sort of food or do I need to eat more?

    Would I be better eating more food if I needed to increase my protein or should I supplement it via whey?

    It depends - what are your goals?

    If you're training then it looks like you're not getting enough food let alone protein.

    But you'd need to give more info on quantities to clarify that and quantify how much more you need.

    Optimal protein intake is typically considered .9g-1.2gX lean body mass in lbs. In other words around 120grams to 150grams daily for weight training.

    This can be easily met without the need for protein powders, unless caloric restriction is so low. That it would require a pretty bland unvaried diet with a large emphasis on high protein foods. The whey protein would allow minimal calorie intake (100calories typically) per serving (25g of protein typically), compared to meats which would contain fat also.

    Weigh and measure your food and calculate how much protein you are currently getting.

    How much turkey mince are you eating?
    How many fillets? And how big are they?
    How much porridge in a serving? How big is the flapjack? Etc etc.
    We can't simply guess unless you can tell us how much you are eating.

    Better yet. There are apps that can tell you how much protein is in your food. Weigh it and add it to the app and you'll have your answer. Myfitnesspall.com is a decent app

    I'm about your weight and I get around 100- 180 a day with no real effort
