good solid tractor. if you need 125hp then get a 125hp. it really is only 112hp. the older ones seem to have a mighty resale

I have a 2002 4360, which is 6cyl 100hp and is adequate to do all my work.Found it very reliable and I have it now for seven yrs. Hear some rumours from competing dealers that Dyna4 is troublesome.

I have heard bad news about 5455 quite surprised to hear anyone praising them, I know of 4 that gave serious trouble( 6 to 8k )while they were under 3 years old.

Interesting to know where the problem lies with 5455.

I would consider the Dyna shift transmission bullet proof going back as far as the 3000 series. I have 54 here and apart for soleniods and switches its rock solid after 10k hard hours of lots of shuttling. touching wood having said that

I had a 5455 for 4 yrs dyna 4. Super tractor, 2250 tanker, 20' silage trailer, large cattle trailer and 10' mower not a bother on her. A little light for towing to be comfortable in the seat but no bother on the tractor

My contractor bought it after I traded her, going strong 10yo this year

Good to hear a positive story. I've had MF tractors all my life going back to 135 in the seventies. Changed once to a different make and I only kept it for a year.I was beginning to doubt myself as I had no experience of Dyna4.

Dyna 4 great job. I had to borrow neighbours NH today, Jesus your heart would be broken changing gears. Flying a helicopter would be easier. It was a 132 T7

I have one of the 112/125hp models and have had the previous 100hp model as well. With front loader for yard and field work in my opinion they cant be beaten .

For road work however thats a different story. I find them bouncy to the point of being dangerous on the road and wouldnt recommend them at all if you have much road travelling to do - maybe with front and cab suspension they might be better - i dont know .

By 2010 onwards I'm guessing you mean teir3? They came out in 09. Good tractor. Dyna4 has a tendency to stick in high gears after prolonged use in a single gear, what used to happen to ours was you would be out rotavating in say 1A and the only gear changes fir hours would be at the headlands. Then when on the way back to yard, flat out, twin beacons on, top gear, everything goes well, but once you stop her and try to put in lower range in yard 1 and 4 start flashing and you know nothing will happen fir 20 mins. It's the clutch switch behind the dash that gets hot and sticks. Used to always get them changed. But now Massey Ferguson is offering a modification, they replace the switch with a poteniomiter and have to program it in. Only takes 20 mins and we've had no trouble since:)

issues I have experienced with the 2003-2004 models, apologies as it is not really answering your question. but may be applicable

Known to give bother around the electric shuttle , possibly due to micro switch in clutch, not 100% sure

bouncy on the road but can pull, I have drawn 24 silage bales on the back of one, she was very very slow going up hills , but managed ok, not bad for 110 hp or whatever they are, they like being serviced too

in relation to someone asking about 5465 older models with the splitter gear box, these tractors, IMO, are far too big to have what can only be described as the worst gear box massey has put in a tractor, dyna4 at least if you ask me, also sore on the jungle juice

to clarify I am a massey person through and through but being honest

I have given serious consideration to buying a 5465. As my own tractor, 4360 is a six cyl. Some people don't like them, but they are a very stable loader tractor. As I haul silage bales quite a lot in winter. Not sure how stable 5455 would be with a loader if it didn't have counter ballast at the rear. This can be inconvenient when pulling a bale trailer.
I too am a Massey Man through and through.

I know a few lads that load bales etc with a loader on one with no counter balance. Does it grand.

Have an 08 5460 same as 5455 but with a bit more pep. Very hand in small yards and have not complaints with dyna 4. If I was doing a lot of roadwork I would prefer the 5465. A neighbour has one and it is a totally different machine for pulling then mine.

I suppose my real dilemma at this stage is whether to opt for a 4cyl 5455 or a 6cyl 5465. Plusses and minuses both ways. 5455 is more compact and if stable on loader work most of my fears would be allayed. They are however listed as weighing 3900kg as against 5400kg for 5465. Someone who has experienced both would be best equipped to say

My 2 cents is if u think you really need the 6 pot for heavy work like cutting silage or drawing silage, pulling a big slurry tank, ploughing, power harrowing or a lot of agitating, stuff like that I'd stick with it. The 5465 is a big awkward tractor compared to the 5455 if you don't need the power. Don't underestimate the 5455. I have a 4355 with a snoopey nose and front loader and its a very handy capable tractor, it can lift and carry a 1000 litre tank and heavy pallet forks with no weight on the back, the 5455 has a far heavier backend than mine so even the heaviest silage bale on earth won't lift the back of it. I'd chance the 5455 it'll always hold its value well, be handier on most jobs and be easier on juice :pac:

Sincere thanks for the advice. Certainly the 5455 is a more compact tractor and infinately more versatile around the yard. I once had a bad experiences with a 4245 while transporting and stacking wet bales. This has fueled my concern ever since. With a bale on front the back end flipped up and the tractor would have overturned if the loader had been elevated. Luckily it was no more than two feet of the ground.

Did you look at a 5470?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 498 ✭✭agriman27

I think you'll agree though that the 5455 with a good loader is a far more substantial tractor than a 4245 which is very closely related to the 390t,things have come on a lot since that:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30 farmer johnd

So far haven't checked 5470. They have SISU engine and front suspension. Would there be an advantage?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48 jayc12

Sisu engine would be well ahead of the Perkins engine for power and torque. Not all of them had front suspension but it is a great extra if you could find one with it.

5455 is grand for loader work weight wise, mine has loaded k's of tons on concrete and clay. any bigger tractor on a stock farm should belong to a contractor. Anyone got figures on 110hp tractor of long term hire? would fix my costs which is something I always like doing

I thought the pick up hitch looked very queer. seemed to be pulled up by a chain of some sort or I could have got it wrong as I never asked anybody about it

Ain't that the truth. More than likely there is cow **** stuck in the socket where the plug goes in
