Hey, the story is - I am off college for next 10 months and I have nothing to do for these 10 months, I got a membership in SV Fitness (IFSC) from college so I decided/thinking of going there.

I am about 180 (6 feet) tall, and weight is 95kg.

I asked my friend from college (who goes to that gym) to show me around so he will, but still I have feeling like I am gonna look so retarded just walking in and having no idea what to do with equipment.

    1) What is that powder I see people constantly drink? it smells horrible.

    2) What are the quietest times in gym?

    3) Any general feedback/reviews of SV fitness?

    4) How would I know how much time I need to spend being in gym doing specific things?

    Thanks, any tips/suggestions appreciated.

The powder you see people taking is whey protein. It's a fast and easy way of releasing protein into the body be it before or post work out. The best thing you can do is learn the big movements as soon as possible. They're squat, bench press and deadlift. Being a beginner, take a look at starting strength online- you can download a pdf. It's a great beginner programme. I can't comment on the gym though, sorry.

I started in a gym 5 weeks ago and like you I was terrified at the thought of it. BUT I soon realised I had nothing to worry about. There were people there of all shapes, sizes, young and old. I find most to be very friendly and more than willing to chat about goals, progress, diet etc and be very supportive and helpful.

Everyone has to start some where and you going with a friend should be a help for you. If your not sure about anything just ask the instructor that's what they are there for.

    Best of luck! :)

People at my gym help each other out and the couple of times I asked questions as a noob, they were happy to help

Lots of gyms do induction sessions, could you see if you can get access to one of these?

It was awesome, I think I am gonna go as soon as I can again (I suspect I will be in bits tomorrow as I never worked out before).

When you first start off it can be tempting to get ahead if yourself and go way too often, so make sure you give your body plenty of time to repair itself.

    You're not drinking enough water.
