Last time this deal was on, a lot of stores (including my local) only had the normal price displayed, but it actually went through at the till.

Many people I know would not touch it, not to say its crap just very different from the usual run of the mill beers.

By "average" this guy probably means compared to other wheat beers. Just be warned this is absolutely nothing like heineken or carlesberg etc, just incase people read this taking "average" to mean "just like your regular mainstream beers", like people might say bavaria is like your average beer.

Its quite nice wheat beer. Not the best by a long shot but the range of wheat beer is very limited in Ireland. And the price sky rockets with quailty. So we take what we can get our hands on.

The lidl brand tinned wheat beer is very cheap and very drinkable also. Worth grabbing a tin or two to compare the Franiskaner too

Can you name one or two other wheat beers that are nice ?
I went from years of drinking heineken to now only drinking wheat beer.lidl brand tins are not great though. FK is really nice.

was on family holiday in a hotel with stunning views over lake como last year. first afternoon took a table in the beer garden and began to drink in the aforementioned views, thinking-life doesnt gat any better than this. then i found the only beers on sale were erdinger and paulaner. nuff said!
(theres 2 obvious weiss bier for you- tho im quite fond of franziskaner, as my recycling bin will testify)

Oh yea forgot about them. paulaner ive drank that. That's great to. Erdinger was ok.

There are the famous ones like Erdinger Heffe and Hoegaarden. Both are really nice. Svyturys White Baltas also. The latter being of good value due to the size of the large bottle.

My fave is Leffe Blonde. Somewhat like a wheat beer but is a pale ale technically I guess. Very typical of a Belgian beer with Sweet and spicy almost yeasty taste.

What I love about this type of beer compared to mainstream lager, is the need to drink less.
Instead of drinking 6 bottles of larger on a weekend, I am quite satisfied to drink 2 or 3 bottles of Leffe of some other quality ale or wheat beer. This deal for 5euro in Lidl would sort me out for the friday night movie for sure.



Edit. Here is a list from obrians. The Franziskaner is very expensive without the deal.

My fave is Weihenstephaner, fantastic wheat beer.

Maisel's Weisse, Andechser and Schneider are also very good.

It says 6th of April on the sign underneath the beer in the shop. So i would say 6th of April. Its sold out in the two Limerick stores anyway.
