On some days off, I barely leave the bed. On other days off, I barely leave the bed.

What do you use your days off for?

Depends, really. These days, there always seems to be plenty of things around the house and garden that need cleaning, fixing, painting or mowing.

The only days off I have are when I go on holidays. Ergo, I go on holidays on my holidays.

Do housework, enjoy time with wife and kids, visit family or friends, study for exams, watch tv, go out and about in good weather.

Do the shopping, entertain the kids, cook something nice, crash on the couch with the wife and some beers...

Meet people for lunch, go shopping, go for a swim or a walk, read a good book or a magazine, drop in to see my mother, take my nephew to the cinema or bowling, - I am never bored on a day off work. There's always something to do.

Got up at 9 to feed baby.
    Missus took her at 9.30.
Was meant to play golf today but too wet, so:
Went and got breakfast at 10.
Went to see my mum at 11.
Back to house, stove lite at 12.
Sitting now watch films till hopefully 4pm.
    Pick up kid at 4
    Make dinner at 5
    Wife comes home at 5.30
Play with the baby till 8.
Feed baby and in bed before 9
Sit down with missus and probably watch a film.

This is a days holidays, not a normal day off.

Just have an aimless day: wander around somewhere for lunch or beer and savour the time in my own space away from friends, kids, colleagues etc.

Friday is my favourite day of the week.

I have to go to work, but I have the prospect of two days off ahead. I find knowing that is more enjoyable than a day off in itself. :)

I'm the same. Once Saturday arrives, I've nothing planned and it's just easier to waste the whole day in front of the computer than do anything.

If required then it's I spend my time doing motorbike maintenance.

Typically though I'll play guitar, do some studying - currently teaching myself Japanese, and revising my secondary school level Chemistry, with the intention of progressin git further.

I'll also watch a few films, go surfing, and meet up with friends for coffee or beer.

Good weather : go out to fairly open space free of general public and fly my quadcopter or sail my r/c model speedboat. Or make sensible youtube video with my Toshiba camcorder I own 2.

I find it a bit sad that some people can think of nothing to do on a day away from work than stay in bed or sit in front of their computer all day.

Walk, drink a beer/coffee/glass of red wine and read a book in a cafe, cycle, jog, go to the cinema, internet, eat, cook, bake, meet friends....

As I get home from work at 10pm every night, I really value my time off.

I'm pretty much full-time writing a four year thesis. The concept of a 'day-off' doesn't normally exist. That's not to say that there aren't plenty of days spent arsing about...its just that I spend them consumed with guilt about not working. :(

    What a strange comment.

Not really. You said you find it sad that some people choose to spend their days in a certain way. If that's all it takes to make you sad, I would recommend some help.

Or, sorry, did you mean it in the judgemental way?

Usually up and out really early at the weekends and don't stop until Sunday evening at about 8 or something at which point I'm utterly knackered and need another couple of days off.

This weekend however, I'm going to do NOTHING. Well, not nothing nothing, but nothing to exert myself. My house is shiny. I don't need to clean, I have food in. I'm going to watch movies and eat and drink wine.

And by 8pm tomorrow night I'll probably have cabin fever

    Daydream.

Although I do that as part of work too, so on days off I daydream while walking or looking at clouds instead of a blank screen/page.

I meant it in the 'having a view' way.

Mostly I just do the same things I do after and before work - I just do _more_ of each of them. There is nothing I can think of I do on days off work that I do not do on days at work - except work.

Normal day would mean baby is here all day, so no watching films and being lazy, but she's as good as gold so it's a pleasure to have her here while we potter about with the normal mundane house work, shopping, gardening etc

This is why I think there should be a three day weekend. Sunday just involves the pain in the ass of knowing you're up early for work the next day.

Chillax with my OH, few beers, few tokes...

If not at a motorcycle rally, up early on a Sunday morning, bit of hunting, motorcycle maintenance midday, afternoon pints, cook the dinner & veg in front of the magic box with a good flick.

Weekday: stay in bed till about 2pm and drink for the rest of the day if I don't feel like going anywhere

Weekend: Saturday I am usually busy anyway.... Sunday I make a feeble attempt to study and give out that the weekend flew by

Hop up on the bike and go for a long cycle. Something to take the mind off the stress and strains of a life filled with technology and distraction.

I don't really have days off when I'm in college. Up and down to college Monday to Friday, then working at the weekend. Always busy!

But when I do have time off during the summer and Christmas, I usually take myself off to the boyfriend's house for a few days, or stay home and do housework, meet friends, and chill out with the tv and/or tablet. I try to relax when I have the opportunity.

After my 39 hour job we run a small farm part time and then I have another small business in working part time to get off the ground in the hopes in two or three years I could kick the 39 hour job.
So free time is very scarse, Sundays really and we do family stuff, walks, swim, cycle or cinema.

As someone else said my holidays are my days off. I try to keep w'end work minimal, 4 or 5 hours per day in winter snb around 3 in summer. Saturday is usually earliest start as there'll be at least one match to go to with kids so try to be finished morning work by nine. Sunday can be as busy with the kids but usually s much calmer day. Beach in good weather, taking it handy at home otherwise.

Take my kid to the cinema to see some animation film. Bring the Mrs and kid out to lunch. If the weather's good go to the park. All good wholesome activities that I like doing.

Today though I have one of those rare days, where Mrs and junior are away for the weekend so I'm not long out of bed, just had some bacon and eggs, sitting back watching a movie. Tonight I'll head out for a few pints and have a burger on the way home.

To most it doesn't sound like much but for me it's like a weekend in Vegas.

Normally on a day off I've lots of things to do. Cleaning, shopping, cooking for family, catching up on things that should have been done some other time : go to optician, whatever.

But in between I go on line, and I'm sure it must look like I'm spending my whole day on boards or Facebook playing Candycrush, when really in between posts and games I'm running around doing laundry etc... :o

My ideal day off when everything falls right and I can manage it, is to go off for a photo drive on my own. I take my book along, for lunch break, and I either chance a new photo spot, or revisit my usual coves and cliffs. I love being on my own, driving, discovering, and taking photos. It's heaven.
