Can you do anything with a 3kg dumbbell?

The only weights I have at home is one 3kg dumbbell. I am planning to invest in some 10 or 15kg sometime but is there anything exercise or reps I can do with the 3kg in the meantaime or am I wasting my time using them at all?

Also to note...losing weight is my primary goal (am 88kg and 5ft8) and just looking to build some muscle to help with weight loss

It depends. Do you find it easy to lift? If so, then you've got a new paperweight. Congratulations!

Haven't been in the gym in years...but it was 10kg dumbbells I used to use.

Ok I get the idea a 3kg is a waste..

So what weights do the average person use so? Seriously

I started out using 5KG for curls. After about a week 7.5KG and three weeks later I was up to 10KG which I couldn't even lift at the start. Another month I was up to 12.5 KG and now around the 15KG mark three months later.

I'm pretty thin and scrawny and some of my friends started on 12.5KG

How long is a piece of string? It's your own strength, nobody can tell you.

You could use it to make your erection stronger. Assuming your a male. Just balance it on your erect member for 1 minute. 3 sets, 30 seconds rest

Can lift a lot more than 3kg anyway...not sure why I got it. Think it was the only one I could bring home without breaking my back.

Need to invest in heavier ones so..with a view to advancing.

Hold the dumbbell in one hand out straight for as long as possible. Once done change hands.

    Rinse and repeat.

p.s. I dont know if this will do anything good for you. Doubt it.

I'll try and post something that might actually be constructive for the OP

It's for boxing conditioning but since it's weight loss you are after it will probably be of some use to you. Note you would need two weights.. and there is no way you will be starting at 3kg, start off with some light household weights (heavy food tins can work) and then maybe you can move up to 3kg

Use that type of weight for rotary cuff work.

3kg will allow you to build muscle capable of lifting 3kg. It doesnt sound like this is what you are after though. You could do some bodyweight exercises or get some cheap weights off donedeal or adverts.

Thinking of buying 15Lb dumbbells myself, saw some on amazon.com that looked what I thought was small for 15lbs my 6.6lbs one I bought in town is why chunkier which made me reluctant to buy up another higher weight. They can be expensive enough but I feel like just using your own bodyweight wouldn't be enough to get definition. I mean 15lbs is heavy enough for a woman anyway right? Can't imagine needing to go higher than that to see good results?

The physical size of the weights will depend on the density of the material they are made from, cheaper weights are usually bigger as they are made from cheaper materials (sand I think?), if you are just using dumbells you'd be better off buying a good set of smaller weights, like cast iron or something, they will be much less awkward.

What results do you want (this is what it comes down to)? And then what exercises and reps do you do?
