Does Faber have it in him to take on the unstoppable Barao? I believe he does. His last defeat at the hands of the ever handsome Barao does have to come with a large caveat in that Faber broke a rib in the first round. How much weight this puts on the result is up to you but I think it's worth mentioning.

Also out of the fighters Faber looks like he has actually improved since their last outing steamrolling through world class competition. Has the Duane Ludwig factor helped? Barao is a very talented champion but I think, and would like, that Faber gets the decision over a five round epic.

The key for Lamas is to weather and early storm and take Aldo into the later rounds where he has a history of tiring. Getting there is easier said than done.

Mir vs Overeem. I'll try get through this paragraph without mentioning PEDs. Damn it I give up. Overeem by Mir wheezing up a lung.

Lineker vs. Bagautinov is such an important fight for the flyweight championship race that one of the important milestones happens on Friday to see if Lineker can make weight. Lineker will go into the fight the larger of the two but can he use that size advantage to muscle around a sambo and wrestling champion?

Jamie Varner can be inconsistent in his fights. He'll pull of stunning upsets and beat top of the line fighters but then lose to others he should beat. I'd like to see him make another run for the title but with such talent at the top he may have to settle with picking off those on their way up i.e. a gate keeper but here's hoping.

Faber is 6/1 to win by decision.

    I'm all over it!

Anybody think Lamas can pull it off? The fight is flying under the radar a little bit, I think many people are too quick to write him off.

    WHERE IS HE 6/1?

    ONLY 9/4 ON PP CURRENTLY

p.s. id be all over that too..

Mir was always my favourite fighter but I am against the whole ped usage. I don't know enough about it really but I think if a fighter needs to be on them, they shouldnt be fighting. I read that the loser is getting the boot but mir said he definitely won't be retiring and really doesnt think the ufc will drop him if he loses. I can only see overeem clinching him to ko but would love to see mir go for takedowns and work some jitz.

will be cheering for faber, would be great to see him take it.

    No its not.
    It's 6/1 on PP also.
I'll be having a slice of that I think

I don't know which Faber you lads have been watching but I wouldn't take him at 10/1 in this fight. Barão is a different class to Faber.

Serious card I think, especially that flyweight fight. Varner has been great value since he's been fighting in the UFC too. It should be a good one, we don't get two title fights on a card very often.

I think Barao will will, he's an animal. But I'd considering the value on Faber tbh.
He had a huge 2013, and stellar set of performances. I think he will do better than he did last time. Doing slightly better but still losing is the likely outcome. But not the only one. He took one round the last time, its not far from there to a hairline 3-2 win, Even if he dominated on the feet during the as a whole.

If GSP v Hendricks and Jones vrs Gust proved anything is that you need to win rounds, not fights.

    I'll be taking Varner too.

I think Barao will win. But 6/1 is great value for Faber here.

i would love to see Faber get a title, but he always seems to fall short of the mark everytime he gets the chance to grab gold... and i dont think this time is gonna be any different

I would prefer to see Lamas win v Aldo soley for the reason to give the division a bit of a shake up. He has been top dog for a long time and would be great to see someone else there

I think it may be more about the money that they cost the UFC. There's no point in paying huge money for what will become a glorified gatekeeper.

Well they could offer less money like they recently did to hendo. Although i remember dana saying about fitch that they would never offer a fighter less money to stay on much better to cut them (seems only to apply to fighters he doesnt like though)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,970 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

Vid here with Mir explaining why he shouldn't be cut if he loses. Also a possible rematch with Lesnar :pac:

    http://www.mmafighting.com/ufc/2014/1/30/5362546/frank-mir-explains-why-he-didnt-train-with-greg-jackson-a-possible

I actually think it will be a good thing Jackson wasn't involved with the coaching on this one.

BAROA fight under 4.5 rounds 13/10 think I like that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,961 ✭✭✭✭mailburner

have a saver on uriah at 6s but my main bet
    is barao points
uriah has improved a lot since their last match but I still
think he'll fall short but that price is huge to be fair

I am banking on this going the distance though but
firstly I need overeem to dispose of mir

really looking forward to Lineker vs. Bagautinov
    that should be a cracker

I don't see mir making it out of the first to be honest

Since this is on in Jersey, will the main card be starting around 12 or 1 does anyone know?

    same as ever

    prelims at 1
maincard start at 3 btsports 1

Mir is gonna be destroyed within 3 mins.
Gonna have a bet on barao on points, linekar by ko, aldo to win rd3,Reem rd1.
Accum pays €1500 for a ten spot.

    Best card in a while.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,323 ✭✭✭✭MrStuffins

So I take it the early prelims aren't on Facebook anymore now that they have this Fight Pass rubbish?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,344 ✭✭✭p to the e

Lineker was lucky to make weight. No wonder they're worried about giving him a title shot if he wins.

Took lamas, faber and mir to win at 73/1 worth a tenner!

Bring back less UFC cards because now cards are getting very average

You think this one is average?

there more than enough fighters on the roster to justify this
    many events
this card is stacked to be fair as was last weeks

I can only imagine folks saying a card like tonites is average if
they dont really follow mma religiously and maybe just watch
when the likes of silva, gsp or the likes of jones are fighting

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 123 ✭✭osl

Aldo and Barao imo are the 2 best fighters in the world at the moment. Expecting a masterclass from Aldo. Barao/Faber should be a great fight. Think Barao is just too good for him though

Lol there's two title fights, that says it all even if there were no other fights.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,970 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

Yupp, 2 title fights and a fight where the loser could possibly be cut. Can't wait to see this.

    Looks that way
    they can kiss my hole

    ONLY USD$9.99 PER MONTH

Could be an interesting fight if Lamas can make into the 4th and 5th rounds but I think Aldo will finish him before that.

I like Faber but I can't see him winning tonight, wouldn't be surprised to see it go the distance.

Think Mir will get done early. (Body shot).

I think mir will take it by flying armbar.....well maybe regular armbar. I really think Mir will win in the 1st by sub. :(

So the UFC fight pass for 10 dollars a month is only for the early prelims? I thought It got you the main card as well?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 840 ✭✭✭jsa112

It gets you the whole fight night cards, prelims for the PPV, old fights, and things like TUF Brazil. Basically all the free fights we used to get are on it now. The PPV main card fights aren't.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,273 ✭✭✭EuskalHerria

Like Uriah Hall last month, I think we could see Overeem back to form tonight. Although obviously you can't discount Mir.

Can see one of the Brazilians losing their belt tonight also. Just haven't decided which one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,902 ✭✭✭✭Mellor

I know Lineker didn't technically missed weight this time, but the struggle to make it might be a factor here.
He was 127 the first time, and scrapped out another 1lb in the hour to make the 126 limit. He looked throughly drained on the scales.
He's missed 3 times previously. And went 2-1 in those fights. So you're right that he still preformed, but it wasn't the same level.

A few key points for me, looking specifically at the fights he missed weight for.
Both his wins were TKOs, which is uncommon in the lower weights. But his opponents weren't top level. The first was a Brazilian journeyman, decent record on low level cards. Phil Harris was the other, average record from random cards.

Flyweight is a fast paced division. A draining cut could affect his pace and ability towards the end of the fight. This wasn't a factor in his previous missed weight fights where he won as he finished his opponents early. It's probably worth noting that the fight that went the longest was the one that he lost.

Bagautinov is a different class. He also finishes fights, 75% finish record is pretty high for a 125er. Looks to have a solid chin and grapple game too, as he's never been stopped. This is hugely important as Lineker could need to go 15 mins, todays weigh-in won't make that any easier.

Crazy it's 2005 since Aldo or Barao lost.

    47 fights in a row.

All really decent fights so far. Trujillo is seriously good, never took much notice of him before. It's turning into rock-em sock-em robots now.

Varner was getting the better of the exchangs but immediately before the KO he wasn't fighting very smart

Guys im not a hardcore mma fan so forgive me for asking but does Faber have a real chance, my mates who follow it close often rate Barao as the best fighter in UFC, now forgive me but i always thought that was kinda a given for GSP but is Barao really that amazing and how good is Faber?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,323 ✭✭✭✭MrStuffins

    WHAT.... A..... FIGHT!!!!!

Set my alarm to get up and watch this ppv. Was half asleep until a minute into that opener. Great fight.

The last time they fought Barao dominated him 4 rounds to 1.
It's probably going to be a similar result this time. But at this level the difference between winning/losing a round is often wafer thin. It's not inconceivable that Faber could take 3 rounds and the belt.

Bogoffkalashnikov looks very strong so far. I'd love to see this one stand for a bit though.
