Not anyone else's, or one you've heard anywhere. Your own tips for life.

    I'll go first.

Bicycles and cars should not be sharing busy roads.

How the hell more cyclists aren't killed every day is beyond me. Cyclists who use busy roads are lucky to be alive, going by what I see every day.

So I guess this would be.... don't cycle on busy roads!

    You got any??

Ok, my first tip is how wrong you are. People should spend more time looking out for each other instead of being completely self centred and solely focused on themselves. This goes double when their actions can have consequences which can negatively impact on others. Such as driving or cycling or even walking along anywhere. Accidents happen all over the place, just as much in those with low volumes of traffic, as much as it does with those that have high volumes of traffic.

Second tip, keep yer shoe laces tied up and check on'em every now and then.

Worrying about the future. I found this futile after the first 30 years of my life.

One I borrowed from Billy Connolly: before you judge someone, walk a mile in his shoes. After that, he's a mile away. and you have his shoes.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

From own experience I would say:

    Don't take anything for granted.

The harder you work at something the better it works.

Oh my god, the solution to all our road safety issues! You've figured it out! Someone alert the (Road Safety) authorities!!

The grass is always greener on the other side.

Sounds trite but I think it explains why most people dream about doing something else even when in a good job/course/place in their lives.

Everyone else is doing a more interesting course/has a more exciting job/lives in a cooler country, etc.

For me, once you realise that most people feel that way, you can remind yourself that a lot of people might really want to be where you are right now!

It's not the solution but it's a major part of the problem The RSA had loads of ads to address this before.

    Just be sound.

There is no benefit to not treating anyone the way you want to be treated. If the world was full of only sound people, imagine.

    Just imagine..

    Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I'm trying to say 'no' less to things, because I think I won't have the time or the money. If there's any possible way I can do something new or interesting, I'll figure it out.

There's nothing worse than missing out on an opportunity that was, in hindsight, a great one.

    Wear sunscreen etc.

Be your own best friend. Forgive yourself your mistakes and go easy on yourself, love completely, live contentedly, work hard, and be the best version of yourself you can be. Be approachable, but don't be taken for a fool. Look within for happiness, it's nobody elses job to make you happy.

Don't take your parents for granted. They won't always be around.

If a decision is split by your head telling you one thing and your heart telling you the opposite, go with your heart.

Things that happen to you in your life are not someone else's fault, they're your fault, Ask yourself what you could have done differently.

Never loan what you aren't willing to give away.

Life isn't fair and while the meek and timid etc may get rewarded in Heaven (ie. Never) the brave and the bold get rewarded on earth.

The vast majority of things you will regret when you are older are the things you didn't do, the girls you didn't ask out or sleep with, the opportunities you missed and so on. Things you tried and failed at are easy to learn and move on from.

Try to practice more "joined-up" thinking. Your actions today can have foreseeable consequences in years to come.

For example: if you buy something, where are you going to put it? If it's expensive, does it have resale value? During the "boom years", all those folks taking out 25-year mortgages, had me wondering whether they could see past the ends of their noses ...

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. If you're gonna cross the road unsafely (that is, not crossing at a traffic lights or zebra crossing) make sure there are no young children around to see. You don't want them picking up your bad habits and trying to leg it between cars.
