Hi I've recently bought a new laptop and want to download Microsoft office but I don't want to buy it as I won't be using it very often and all I need it for is to update my CV and type up the odd letter. Can anyone point me in the right direction when I can download the above or even better give me a link?

    Thanks

I got a copy Office 2010 from above (for some reason v difficult to find on Microsoft).

You will need to purchase a Licence key to activate (otherwise its just a 30 day trial)

In fact - I could do with a office 2010 licence key for elderly friend of mine - if anyone has a legitimate spare please PM me.

Open office is a good alternative, its free and good enough. Might even be compatible with office documents

Microsoft Office is not free, there are no ways to legally obtain it free of charge

LibreOffice is free, and covers almost everything MSOffice does

Boardsie Enhancement Suite - a browser extension to make using Boards on desktop a better experience (includes full-width display, keyboard shortcuts, dark mode, and more). Now available through your browser's extension store.

LibreOffice or Open Office are two good freeware alternatives to MS Office, which is NOT a free program.

USE notepad ,or Wordpad to write letters,
    download free program like libreoffice,
90 per cent of office would never be used by you.
ITS mainly used by business,es ,full time writers,
    and students.
NOTE pad is in every version of windows, see start ,menu ,accesorys.
i have windows 7 ,it has notepad, and Wordpad ,
as part of the windows preinstalled programs. Many pcs have a trial limited version of office installed ,as least on new pc,s .

Why not use many of the free online alternatives.

    GoogleDrive
    Microsoft SkyDrive
Maybe others. Both of the above enable you to create and modify documents with all the features you need to update your CV.

    dropbox etc

You can get Microsoft Starter for free. It comes with basic versions of Word and Excel and there is a narrow advertisement pane on the right but it's perfect for basic editing work.

+1 for Wordpad if you just want to do a CV
    For more, Open/Libre Office

Agreed. Requires your internet connection and will impact your data limit if you have one, but good free option

Not worthy of a new thread but the rebrand of sky drive is finalized after their lawsuit last year from British Sky Broadcasting. Skydrive will be rebranded globally as OneDrive this spring
