GW 23 Matchday Thread

    Finally.............

Okay, so Cabaye is gone. (I didn't have him anyway- sucker blow for those that did) Mata is in. Fabio and Zaha have missed the deadline to play.

Sooooo, GW starts at 7.30 and matches at 7.45 so will be able to see the line ups.

I have dumped Silva for Mata this week and as a result I am praying he hits the ground running. I also am holding off on Augerio until after the Tottenham and Chelsea games.

I am expecting big things from Suarez (c). Only worry I have is Arsenal v Southampton as I am keeping Ozil, Lallana, J Rod and Mert in my starting 11.

    Best of luck to all.

Feeling pretty good about this week after changing the team up with the WC.

    Szczesny
    Mert, Cahill, Gabbidon
    Yaya, Mata, Hazard, Whilshere
    Suarez, Ade, Augero

Have Noone as first sub so he'll be coming in if Whilshere doesn't play.

That's a really good team. Can't see Whilshere starting though. What are your other two subs like? Are you rotating Gabbidon home and away? I have ward and turner and am rotating them, also have Speroni and Boruc rotating in goal

Had to cheap out on the sub bench to get a strong 11 which could bite me in the ass in the long run. Have Davis, Bennett & McNaughton on the bench so I'll probably be sticking with Gabbidon and hoping for the best. Szczesny will be starting for the remainder, he's done me well this far so I don't see any point roating him.

    ***spoler alert****

my friend is in Oz and it's 10:50pm on 28th of Jan there and the matches all kick off at 7.45 on 28th of jan.
Just got off the phone with him and he said Mata had a rooney type debut for united, scored a hat trick!!
Suarez scored but then got sent off, he's banned for 3 matches now so best just sell him now lads.

1-0 victory, scored by mariappa, a nice 15 point haul for him with the 3bp's too

I'll happily settle for my Speroni/Ward combo even with Mariappa scoring a hattrick if he wants

I've been looking at Mariappa as a cheap filler too but FFScout worrying me with this from their team news:

Ward could, once again, be deployed in central midfield, although Pulis has options if he opts for a 4-4-2 with Jerome partnering Marouane Chamakh up front. That could see Ardlene Guedioura paired with Jedinak in the middle of the park, with Ward shifted to right-back and Adrian Mariappa making way. Alternatively Ward could challenge Dean Moxey for a start at left-back with Jonathan Parr unlikely to feature having suffered a head knock in Saturday’s defeat to the Latics.

    And another potential filler, Bruce:

With Chester on the treatment table, Steve Bruce could revert to a back-four, with the fit-again Paul McShane in contention for a return to the starting XI ahead of Alex Bruce. Liam Rosenior started as a wing-back ahead of Maynor Figueroa in the defeat to Norwich, but could now start at right-back, with Figueroa coming in on the opposite side and Ahmed Elmohamady pushed forward on the right of midfield. Another option to the Tigers boss could be to deploy Davies, McShane and one of Figueroa or Bruce in a 3-man defence, with Elmohamady and Rosenior occupying the wing-back roles.

All ifs and buts I guess...

Looking at this team going into tonight, with no changes made. Annoying that we won't find out about Silva until tomorrow, and I won't even know for sure if my only available sub (Colback) will start. Not too bothered about Coleman and Chester being injured, wouldn't have played either anyway. Just bad luck that it happened straight after my wildcard, shouldn't be an issue though. Would be nice if some news was released on Silva today, not sure I want to risk playing Colback.

    Mannone
    Mert Ward Sagna
    Ozil Lallana Hazard Silva
    Aguero Lukaku Suarez(c)

Aim is to hit the FSA average this week and then have 2 FT's to work with next week. I think people are being too hasty getting rid of Coleman and Ozil. Lukaku is on his last chance though! If Mata starts and does well I'll consider shifting Ozil, but would prefer to wait until after the Palace game at the weekend to start dumping Arsenal players.

What's the latest on Coleman, any chance he's back for Villa game? Everton have a tough run coming up, don't mind dumping him for Zab/Kolorov.

I also have Silva and Coleman. Silva is fit according to FFS. I'd say Coleman is 50-50 at the moment for the Villa game, we'll have to wait til Friday probably to get a proper update.

I also have Ozil and haven't made my transfer. I'm tempted by Mata but as you said Ozil has Sou who are leaking goals and Palace at home so I'm undecided.

Lining out like this after playing my wildcard. Eto'o as captain is tempting given he is almost certain to start and West Ham are pretty awful. But given everyone else will have Suarez as captain its not worth the risk that he will score a hattrick against Evertons depleted defense tonight.

My post wildcard team for this GW:

    Mannone
    Ward Terry Mert
    Lallana Yaya Mata Hazard
    Suarez (c) Aguero Ade

    Subs: Boruc Coleman Bruce Noone

Not sure how they'll do this gameweek because Mert, Lallana and Ade all have relatively difficult games. I like the look of it for the rest of the season though. Cabaye moving at exactly the right time saved me a few worries as I couldn't decide between him and Mata.

If I had my way, I'd go with Silva over Yaya but I just can't ignore his returns anymore. The man is a machine and I need him as a blocker if nothing else. Even if Silva outscores him, the people in my leagues have Yaya and have been catching me because of his points so this will put a stop to that happening any week.

David Moyes has praised Juan Mata’s impressive versatility
“I won't be surprised at what he can do for us. He can play off the right, off the left, behind the striker - he plays it in his own style.”

Why do I get the feeling Mata is going to become Kagawa 2.0.. Thrown out on the wing instead of his natural position in behind the striker.

    Szczsney
    Sagna Kolorov Gabbidon
    Lallana Yaya Januzaj Hazard
    Aguero Suarez(c) JRod

    Subs: Chester, Cabaye, Coleman.
