Swimming pool in Dublin6/ 12/14 area

Could anyone recommend a good pool, or gym with a pool in this area? Most places I've tried have classes, lane swimming, family sessions etc up until about 8.30 in the evening, whereas I'd prefer to go for a swim on my way home from work.

I'm currently in Carlisle which is good value but it's not the most pleasant of places to go for a swim. The pool is always packed and full of people just standing around chatting. It's also completely overlooked by the gym which can be a bit off putting. Also, there's loads of aul fellas who seem to spend the entire day sitting in the jacuzzi eyeing up all the females coming in and out of the changing room. When they're not there they're in the steam room effing and blinding and talking at the top of their voices.

As I said, it's good value but I'd prefer to pay a little bit more and go somewhere more comfortable.

Have you looked at the Mespil pool? Can pay as you go.

The Dun Laoghaire CC pool in Meadowbrook might suit you. Its D16, but very close to Dundrum.

Its pay and you go and there aren't a lot of slots for public swims, but you might find some that suit.

UCD, it's a full Olympic 50m pool so even when busy there's plenty of space for swimming.

Did lessons at the Mespil a couple of years ago and was not impressed at all, got next to no attention and did me next to no good. [something a mate of mine confirmed when she went there on another occasion]

Not a bad pool tho, and a great location.
