Cheap digital camera

    Hi,
    I'm looking for a bargain basement digital camera, €30/€35 tops. Any suggestions? I'm Dublin based. Argos have a cheap one, but it takes AAA batteries which is a non-runner, as my charger and high-capacity batteries are AA.

    i am not sure you would find a brand new camera for that budget, but you could try looking for a second hand item on adverts.ie

    My 8 year old got a present of a Vivitar camera at Xmas. They're about €30 in Argos but they're not great. Really plastic feeling and the quality of the photos leaves a lot to be desired. Grand for a child but you'd be better off paying €80-100 and getting a good brand.

    Thanks, but its for a 5 year old who's showing loads of interest in taking photos. We won't be relying on her for the main family snaps, so quality isn't that big a deal - there's no way I'm spending €100 on a camera for her. Would have bought the Vivitar one in Argos, if it wasn't for the AAA batteries.

    You can actually get kids camera's, would one of those not do?

    Check likes of Argos. I'd say DoneDeal would be good place to get a cheap one too.

    yeah there's a Hello Kitty one in Argos for €40 - but its AAA batteries also.
    Adverts/Donedeal might be the best option alright, but am a bit wary of 2nd hand cameras

    Those kids cameras are really dreadful. I went through a couple of cheap compacts with my two kids, they'd invariably drop them when the lens was extended, byby camera. Eventually I trawled ebay for a few weeks and picked up one of these http://www.cameraquest.com/fujibigjob.htm for about €20. It's big and chunky, can be dropped onto concrete from 2 or 3 metres, survives being immersed in water no problems at all. It's the ideal kids camera. It also takes surprisingly good pictures :-D

    looks a good camera - good purchase to get that for €20! Can't seem to see it available now.

    I had practically every ruggedised camera I could think of on a watchlist. I bid on quite a few before I snagged this one, wasn't going to pay more than €20/€30 for anything. Playing the long game on EBay can net you some good bargains.
