Cracking card for the Boylesports at Leopardstown and great racing in England with Big Buck's making his come back.

Not often I back ante post outside of the festival, but I've already backed Operating at 20/1 for the handicap chase at Leopardstown. He makes his handicap debut off a mark of 132 and think it is more than fair, he was disappointing last time but before that he had been really consistent without winning in some good novices, finishing a ten lengths third first time out behind Felix Younger and White Star Line, with Heaney miles behind them who won two novices since and is rated 130.

Fell next time out when travelling really well in a race won by Morning Assembly who is one of the best novices in the country with two good horses in Si C'etait Vrai and Clonbannan Lad filling the places. His next two runs were the most promising, finishing third to Road to Riches at Naas beaten under five lengths, with the very smart Foxrock three lengths ahead in second (fourth won next time out and the fifth was third in the Grand Sefton off a mark of 138)

Similar form next time out at Fairyhouse. If this fella is declared I can't see him being 20/1 think a mark of 132 is more than fair, and can see a few coming out that are ahead in the betting, particularly Hunting Party that I had feared most but he ran in the Theystes today. A waste of money if he isn't declared tomorrow but he's worth the chance at this price.

Boston Bob looks like a runner in the Cleeve Hurdle. It won't be Ruby on board tho, Barry Geraghty has got the nod.

Would love to see him win and he's clearly improved this season but I'm not sure his jumping is good enough and questions about going left handed. Won't be on but hopefully runs well.

Operating is declared anyway 18s still available still think its a big price

Anyone think Time For Rupert could be great value at Donny tomorrow?Pretty ordinary bunch apart from Unioniste who has plenty of weight for what he,s achieved.

The term "free" is a little misleading.

You pay for it, by lodging your own money first.

There's a limit to the number of accounts you can open, unless you have others willing to do so for you. In any event, if you find your self opening more and more accounts to access "free" bets, those accounts are likely to be all cleaned out.

If you're even semi serious about making money you should have an account with as many bookies as you can.

A co worker said today he was going to back a horse in PP, told him he could get 2 points higher in Ladbrokes. Said he doesn't like Ladbrokes so would go to PP. must love people like him

Big Bucks freely available at even money now. Bit disappointed as I am planning to lay him fairly seriously tomorrow - I'm still hoping for a huge "public" punt on him though! Anyway, as long I can lay him at anything around evens or better I'll be happy.

Lot of questions for BB to answer tomorrow, as an 11yo coming back from a long break on a punishing course in soft ground and facing 3 good, race-fit rivals. If he's as good as ever he'll win but I'll be happy to have the rest of the field against him at evens.

Watching brief for me but yeaj I agree there are plenty of questions to answer and plenty of doubts, another factor which I think has been massively underplayed is the jockey and I dont mean Sam and Daryll and all that mess but Ruby and BB were a team, he looks a very very difficult ride and Walsh was always able to get a tune out of him, I think he would have been beaten a few times with someone else on top.

The query related to Free Bets. I'm just pointing out that they are anything but "Free". And I'm a little more than half serious about making money but thats a side issue.

Anyway, back to Saturday, what do people think of Tap Nights chances? Has a serious turnaround in the weights (22lbs) with Double Ross from the pp cup, where he was dropped out the back by ap & not even put in the race & let the other two green hooped pony's chase double ross. Handicapper has dropped him to 142 where I think he has a great shout tomorrow, unless he's dropped out the back once again to line him up for something in 7 weeks time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,016 ✭✭✭Hulk Hands

I can't see how BB is a difficult ride at all. He can be tucked in, or even make it in small fields. It doesnt matter how soon you get there with him and his jumping these days is good. In his earlier days he'd hit the odd flat spot, which any half decent jockey should be able to sort out. Ruby himself said hes a perfectly straightforward ride

The more I look at the race, the more I like Tap Night. I reckon he's a cracking ew bet to land tomorrow's race and the betting suggests the handbrake will be off tomorrow. Off the fence, that's my bet for Saturday.

PP paying 5 places on the Boylesport hurdle, Had Sea Light backed both days over Christmas but you just never know what you're going to get with Charles Byrnes, Really like Leah Claire, she's a good honest horse and although her win record over the jumps isnt as good she's brilliant value at 14's for the e/w market

Way Up In The Air 28/1 in the 3.25 Leopardstown. If we get a wet night /day then 28/1 wont be around for long as she loves it deep.I believe Tyner sent her chasing to protect her mark of 124 and if that is the case she could be thrown in.Jessie Harrington is playing plenty of cards in the 1.05 and I will be watching the markets for Voice of Curlew[big danger] and More of the Same[flat form is decent].Crown of Gold in the 1.40 is interesting if money arrives if not its Galway bound.Minsk is tempting at 10/1 as is Empire of Dirt 8/1.

Reckon there'll be some 6/4 about Big Bucks around tomorrow, never thought I'd see him be odds against again. Forget the ground, the lay off, the change in jockey, the fact that he's 11 now. This race has been his target for over a year now and I've no doubt Nicholls will have him as fit as he can get him, if he's even retained 90% of his old ability and is 85% fit he'll beat this lot, he's just that good!

I also had SL backed both days over the Xmas meeting, and will be going in again tomorrow at a great EW price. I will be also be having an EW Trixie on Byrnes horses in England , Chelt and Donny. One shrewd trainer , who seldom sends them abroad without getting a good result. Stable is on fire at the moment.

I'm not fully convinced that he was 11lb (the hike for his last win) ahead of the handicapper lto, more a case of stealing a march on the field that day.

I've a feeling he'll go very close too and thought as much when he was a bigger price a day or two ago. Didn't back him though and won't be backing him the way his price is now. Has a real chance in tomorrow's ground IMO though.

ah.... can u not see mr mullins is putting a line in big bucks with boston bob with annie power the world hurdle candidate from closutton?!

anyways here are the facts.... cheltenham; giant bolster, lentucky hayden, wishful thinking donny: rainbow hunter ew & centasia, lep: a barry connell benefit day, champagne james, ballychorus & minsk with seelight a huge price @ 8/1

In relation to Kentucky Hayden. Would you not be worried that he has already been beaten fair and square by 2 of his rivals tomorrow. Although Ballyglasheen was getting 3 pounds that day.

Still though how in the name of god is Kentucky Hayden 6/1 and Ballyglasheen 14/1.

Never understand this. Fair enough, everyone, Mullins included, thinks/knows Annie Power is very likely a better animal than Boston Bob but do you really think Mullins is sending him there to see if Annie Power can beat Big Bucks? Trainers don't race their horses against each other at home so I doubt Mullins is using a Gr.1 winner as a yardstick for another horse. He has no definitive proof that AP is better than Boston Bob over 3m and vice versa. Boston Bob is running on his merits.

    E-Way Super Yankee
    Presumido 9/2 1-25 Lingfield
Robin Hoods Bay 5/1 3-45 Lingfield
    Dysios 20/1 3-25 Leopardstown
The Mighty Milan 6/1 3-55 Leopardstown
    Native Gallery 10/1 3-15 Doncaster

The fact that Scudamore bothers to turn up at Doncaster to ride Centasia in the first makes me believe that this one must be fancied so 7/2 seems fair enough to me

Please refer to my post re Boston Bob before making that comment.Just spotted a super bet Rocky Creek 13/8.Houblon Des Obouex cannot win on all known form[cannot win].Harry Topper is maxed out and the Giant Bolster is punch drunk. This price is totally incorrect ,lads get on big time.

    3.25 Leopardstown

Way Up In The Air 28/1

There are still definite concerns that this massive 7 year old Mare is a bit of a bridle merchant but I think this big field contest likely to be run at a very decent gallop should definitely suit her strong travelling nature on her return to timber. Kept to fences so far this season, Way Up In The Air made a lovely chasing debut when beaten a fast diminishing short head by Jim Will Fix It under an awful ride by Philip Enright and although she disappointed when sent off a 5/2 shot in a Grade 3 Mares Novice Chase on her last start in December she travelled very well for a long way before emptying to find nothing and, if not a bridle merchant, she either completely blew up or perhaps burst a blood vessel. Either way, she's been given 48 days to recover from that race on her return over timber off a mark of 124. Looking back at her hurdles form, she was effectively an impressive winner on her hurdling debut (fell at first on actual hurdles debut) off an average looking contest when travelling like a dream, jumping beautifully throughout and idling to a 4.5L success and she backed that up with a really good 4th behind 3 very decent Mares in Glens Meoldy, Jennies Jewel and Zuzka on her next start. Over 2m2f at Leopardstown, Way Up In The Air was pitched into a Listed Hurdle on her second start over timber where she once again acquitter herself very well when finishing a 9L beaten 4th last January. Held up in the rear of the 7 runner contest, Way Up In The Air cruised into contention under what was probably an overly patient ride by Enright and jumped the last just behind the leading pair in 3rd but under strong pressure she faded back to 4th and may not have stayed the 2m2f trip. Her final start over hurdles represented her handicap debut off a mark of 121 at Cork last April where she finished a good 2L beaten 2nd where, which seems to be the story of her career, she travelled like a dream through the field and came to the last swinging off the bridle before finding very little to finish a 2L beaten 2nd. Although her bridle merchant tag may well be true, there is no doubt in my mind that she has a serious, serious engine and if connections have perhaps found a reason to why she is not finishing off her races then I think she has a belting chance in this off a mark of 124. With a lovely weight of 10-5 and for Robert Tyner who took this in 2007 with Spring The Que, I think Way Up In The Air will love scything through this large field and if she gets to the last in contention then hopefully she'll find a bit more off the bridle and land this very valuable handicap.

    Keeping these 3 short enough.

12.25 Doncaster Hidden Justice 12/1 looked a really exciting hurdler when winning his first two starts over timber for John Quinn and despite finding himself out of depth in the Triumph Hurdle and disappointing badly on his latest start in a handicap at Musselburgh on his first start for 8 months on New Years Day I think the handicapper has given him a massive chance dropping him to a mark of 133 and with the very talented Dean Pratt taking off an invaluable 7lb at a course where John Quinn has a 7-11 record in the past 2 years then I think 12/1 looks huge with the step up to 2m3f sure to suit this strong stayer on the flat.

3.15 Doncaster Kruzhlinin 9/1 comes here in search of a hat trick having scored over just shy of 3m at Kelso on his last 2 starts and although up 6lb to 144 in a much better race he's definitely unexposed over this sort of trip and I thought he won win a fair bit in hand on his latest start.

3.55 Leopardstown Nearly Nama'd 9/1 travelled like a dream from the front off this mark of 124 LTO when perhaps finding the 2m7f trip too far and I think he's got a great chance of landing this dropped back to 2m4f off only a 4lb higher mark than he won off 2 starts ago.

Have done the following in an accumulator.

1:25 Lingfield - Random Success (5/6) - Didn't have long to wait on this one after it trounced the opposition two weeks ago. Horse looks to have a bit in hand from that win, and will need a little of it to help see off the second favourite. Do not see the others being competitive in this one.

2:15 Leopardstown - Djakadam (7/4) - Horse receives quite a bit of weight from the opposition and I think it could just make the difference tomorrow. Willie Mullins had a few declared for this one, but it didn't surprise me that Djakadam was the one chosen to take part tomorrow. Horse was comfortable last time when stepped up in trip against the Ryanair horse and I think it's crying out for fences.

2:25 Cheltenham - Rocky Creek (13/8) - Agree with others here, really hard to see past this one, it has the soft ground and it has beaten the second favourite off the same weight. It carries 1lb less today, so it's almost impossible to not see it dispatching Houblon. Would actually be worried about The Giant Bolster more than anything else, we know that one can be competitive when it decides to compete.

As a single, I have to back Ruacana at the last at Cheltenham tomorrow. Shocked to see this at 10/1 as the horse has some very decent form against some class opposition. There's likely to be an improver in the pack judging by the form of some of the trainers, but still feel there's a bit of value here.

ignored on the morning line, i just have a feeling it might run well today. on last year's potentially you'd give it a shout(and you'd have to take a chance that the 2 runs this year can be ignore). pity we dont have 8 runners.

I'm still thinking of backing it
