Why would a garda come and knock on the door looking for someone? Has this happened to anyone?

You could be a witness to something, orrrr there could be a bench warrant out for your arrest because of a missed court date(driving offence maybe?)
The witness thing has happened to me.

Depending on how law abiding you are...
    - reported bad driving
    - failed to turn up for jury duty
    - security check if your job requires clearances
    - identity theft if someone was using your id

    This could be the case.
I've reported a fella who almost struck be off me bike, Garda paid him a visit, heard how sorry the fella was and how he's going to pay attention while driving and that's all.

    Was it a female garda?

Was her name Garda Boobs McGee?

If the answer to both of these questions are yes, she may be a stripogram.

You're lucky the garda knocked! A few months ago a squad of gardai stormed my cousin's apartment only to tell him a few hours later it was the wrong apartment! Knocked down the door and wrecked the entire place.

Cops went an broke into a friends house a couple of months ago based on a tip off from a neighbour that he may be dead as he'd not been seen for a few days. In fairness to them he does look a bit old and doddery.

He'd actually been off taking part in a three day coastal ultra marathon race where he won his age category.

    Looking for your other half.........
    JaneeMack wrote: »

I'm seeing this guy from a southwest Dublin area, a place where some people would consider a bit rough.

The relationship's been going great and we've gone out drinking on many occasions - even though we never got hammered together.

This weekend, we went out with our friends from both sides and ended up in a club. We were doing shots and had quite a lot to drink. Now, he was fine until about 2 am but then there was a small argument between his friend and another guy in the club and my guy got involved in it. Thankfully it didn't turn into a full blown fight (the security guards got involved and stopped them) but it was turning into a huge brawl in the club and I was scared to death that it might turn into something nasty. There was a lot of cursing and shouting and ppl got gathered around them while this was going on.

When we left the club, they were acting drunk and stupid at a chipper where we went to for a grub and he threw the can of soda at the wall out on the street really violently and thought it was hilarious when I got upset about it. He also started talking to girls on the street (in a jokingly way, not sleazy) and ran after one leaving me with his friend as if it was so funny. His friend told me that this is a typical Dublin behaviour and that I shouldn't worry - that I haven't seen a real Dub going out.

The next day he said he doesn't remember any of this and apologised.

Mother: "I can give you his new address"

    garda turns smiling "oh..really..."

Probably best to call your local garda station and inform them you were out when they called and you believe they were looking to speak with you over something (Unless of course you have something to hide)

They knocked on our door years back. Our younger neighbours had stopped paying on their car, owed money and the girl hadn't turned up at her parents when she was supposed to. Landlady though the boy had killed her & buried her somewhere.

    He hadn't.

They had, however, blazing rows. Noisy and weepy. It was the first time either had lived away from home and they spent like there was no tomorrow, the boy couldn't hold down a job and neither could she. They owed a lot. Then did a runner. Not before trashing the flat and opening our mail...

That happened to me once, only he didn't come to my house. I was my visiting my sister's but he found me anyway. Nifty piece of detective work on his part.

Turned out to be some local on a campaign to get speed ramps reporting everybody who dared to come down his road for dangerous driving. I had a clapped out Mini which couldn't speed anyway. But I suppose it looked dangerous. The Garda was only going through the motions. He knew it was timewasting nonsense.

You know they're really out to get you when one of their choppers shines a searchlight in your window and they fire a tear gas grenade through the front door. I'd surrender quick if I was you.
