Gluten, yeast and diary free diet.

    Hi everyone.

    The other half has done a food intolerance test and has come back marked red ( Red: Very intolerant ) for Diary, yeast and gluten. Our diets are healthy enough, lots of home cooked meals with the odd take away. Traditional enough meat and spuds stuff but that is going to have to change!!

    I know it would be hard but we're going to try eliminate all these from our diet ( I'm doing it out of solidarity... by choice of course! ).

    Here's the question, any ideas of what kind of foods can we eat that contain none of the above, seems anything I can find at best will have at least one of the three in it.

    Any suggestions?

    Was this a proper test performed by a medical professional, or one of those pharmacy / health shop blood test ones that claim to test for hundreds of food intolerances / sensitivities?

    If the latter, I'd double check with your doctor before making such drastic changes to your diet, especially cutting out the diaries :D

    Which of the 3 are you putting in "meat & spuds".

    Also you might needlessly be counting in things with bare traces of gluten in them, which might not be suitable for celiacs but might be OK for you. Some guys used test kits on loads of mainstream beers and many of them were below the level where they could have been labelled gluten free. Seems the manufacturers might be ignorant or over cautious.

    The latter, €150 test in McCabes Pharmacy. I was thinking the same but you'd expect a certain standard if they are sending bloods off to England for analysis ( Although all they give is their word that that's what is happening, it could very well be some guy in his basement with a packet of Litmus paper! ) We prob will check in with the doc, diagnostic seems to be solid enough though as things like white bread, pasta, milky coffee...etc can cause severe discomfort.

    True, it may be more of a case of not having as much, if any butter on the spuds and altering the diet in that sense. Some of the raw ingredients can stay.

    Another valid point about amounts in foods, I will research which foods contain trace amounts and try portion reduction instead of total elimination.

    Its the old reliable that will be the hardest, the milky tea, the buttery spuds, the pasta dinners.

    PS: On a side note I have completely eliminated diary from my own diet since new year ( Makes me nasely and congested ) and lo and behold my heartburn completely disappeared. I was attributing the heartburn to other foods in my diet and stress!

    If your OH is coeliac she should be diagnosed by doctor, that is serious disease. Anyway often coeliacs have problems with diary that would cease when on GF diet, however it is important to eat gluten before getting diagnosis so again head to doctor.

    She has had blood test done for coeliac already and came back negative thank god!

    As others have said really results of these allergies tests need to be taken with a pinch of salt as it is an unregulated industry. Really only a qualified healthcare professional can diagnose tru allergy. Here's an article that you may find usefull with a bit of info on displaying caution when getting these tests done.

    A Friend has these done twice, one when eating badly and once when eating clean and results varied massively. Same results should occus no matter what you eat around the test.

    That does seem strange, the body should react the same both times. I don't think we'll be forking out another 150 Euro to see though!! ;)

    I agree with the comment by alun, is it medically necessary. As someone who has been coeliac for 15 years, believe me, I would not be on this diet by choice. That said, many people feel better after giving up white bread and yeast products.

    Someone may have mentioned it, but most paleo diets would exclude all those things. There are tons of sites devoted to a paleo diet. Ice been paleo for about a year now, and not only am I much healthier, ive lost 4 stone! Good luck! I also highly recommend the irish beef book (cookbook). The reciepes are awesome!
