Hey i'm thinking about taking up running every morning to loose weight. I'm 18 weigh 14.5 st and want to shed 3 stone.

The run i'm taking will be from my house to the top of my estate to the end of my estate and back to my house. It would take about 20 minutes to walk from one end to the other my house is 3/4 of the way up.

I usually get up at 7 for school but will be getting up at 6 to exercise before school. I Don't have time to exercises after school as i left Taekwondo for my eaving Cert
    year.

Would this be effective in shedding the pounds ?

The most important thing is diet.

As far as exercise goes you should try looking into some interval training, or perhaps even max interval training. I've just started insanity for the second time. I did the first thirty days every morning last may, right before the leaving, and it got me into good shape.

Hey there, fair play to you for wanting to get in shape. Have you thought about any other exercises apart from running? I know you said you can't exercise in the evening but you could buy yourself a kettle bell and alternate between that and the running. Kettle bells are quite affordable (Argos or tk maxx) and you can do lots of different exercises with them to tone up.
There are loads of videos online- you just need to make sure that you do the exercises right as you don't want to risk getting injured. Best of luck!!

I'd say the first thing you'd want to do is sort out your diet before anything else.
Leaving the Taekwondo sounds like a bad idea, if its something you enjoy you should really stick with it, doing the leaving cert is no excuse either.
Also, I'd find it hard to believe that you can't find the time to run after school, getting up at 6am seems unnecessary, you need to sleep too!

    I agree with diet.

Make an honest list of everything you eat for 5 days. Then look at it and see what you need to change. Don't add excess butter etc. to foods. Limit take-away's to once a week. If you don't like veg, try mash them up and mix in with a potato for example. Reduce your carb intake - i.e. bread, potatoes, pasta, white rice etc. When you sit down to a meal, leave 1/4 of what is on your plate. Limit crisps/chocolate to one bar/packet every 2nd or 3rd day - gradually extend that longer.

Drink less fizzy drinks or better still cut them out. Drink water - add a little sugar free juice if you need to, reduce that until you don't need to add any.

Exercise will help and you will feel much better for it but diet is key to start imo.

    Good luck :)

Sorry...what? Might want to qualify that with something that makes it sound less mental.

Em....if you sit down to eat a meal that is served on a plate - leave around quarter of it on the plate and don't eat it. Portion size? Honestly do not see how that sounds mental, it's advice commonly given.

You'll need to improve your diet as well in order to maximise weight loss. Have a look at myfitnesspal, you can log your calorie intake here, if you can use the app it's really handy. Look for a TDEE calculator to calculate your daily calories, once you get this, subtract 20%from the total to get your daily calorie intake.

're the running, every day is a bitmad to start with. Can you down load the couch to 5k appall you'll need is 40 mins every other day, it will get you started. Good luck😊

Proper portion size is commonly advised, yes. You've no idea of what the portion size is but you're advising to leave a quarter of the food behind? I appreciate what you're trying to say but it's poorly phrased. Apart from anything else it's just plain awkward to go taking a quarter out of each type of food on the plate.

I'm guessing at 14.5 stone, they are fairly big portions. At 10.5 stone, I eat big portions but generally leave (I don't measure as I don't find it hard to divide up the plate in 4 and leave some behind) some too. I'm sure the op is not so pedantic and understands what I am saying.

Apologies for the poorly phrasing - 50 hour working weeks can do that sometimes!

I have changed my diet since the start of the year. No more crisps chocolate with lunch or after dinner. Skimmed milk in the tea down to 1 suger in the tea.
Breakfast is now cornflakes with small glass if orange juice.
Lunch is now brown bread lettuce with weigh watchers cheese and their salad cream. I also take 3/4 pieces if fruit and 1.5 of L.
Had my first takeaway today and 2 glasses if coke. Use to drink everyday now only Friday or Saturday and a glass or two instead of the bottle.

Dinner is usually healthly a lot of vegetables and a Linda McCartney or quorn vegetarian thing.
As I'm vegetarian or a bowl of soup.

I'd throw in weetabix instead of cornflakes.
Fair play, seems like you're making a genuine effort.

Possibly but I'm loving cornflakes now use to hate them but hooked.
I like Weetbix how many and with what would you suggest to eat at 7 that would keep me going until lunch at 12:40

Going by myself, if i eat the likes of a cereal in the morning i'll be starving by 10 o'clock. Porridge is the way to go, it's delicious, the best of a bad bunch, keeps you full and is really quick and easy to make.

Another really quick and easy (really) breakfast, is scrambled egg, get used to having some of that in the morning and you're sorted.

If you find you're struggling to get through the morning, for something savory made a hard boiled egg or a bit of chicken breast from the night before to get you through until lunch.
For something sweet, banana's always hit the spot for me.

Does leaving 1/4 of your food on the plate mean it gets thrown out? Hope not, what a terrible waste that would be, not to mention being a needlessly convoluted way of just eating less.

OP, I wouldn't be a fan of corn flakes for brekkie, if it's not filling you up you should try some eggs or porridge as they'll release energy that bit slower.

Looks like you could do with more protein in your diet in general, there's a 'vegetarian bodybuilding' thread knocking around here somewhere that could have some useful advice for you.

I'd recommend investing time in learning about your food too. Even a basic understanding of nutritional value will really open up your eyes about what you should or shouldn't be eating, as will as empowering you to make informed decisions rather than just going for the weight watchers version of something that could probably be bought for half the cost.

    Good luck.

JUST PUT LESS FOOD ON YOUR PLATE IN THE FIRST PLACE.

portion control isn't about not eating food, its about serving the right amount of food.

leave a quarter of you food on you plate. my god. /facepalm

talk about developing unhealthy eating habits
