Great days racing for a Thursday at Thurles. Having backed Last Instalment for the GC, I'd love to see him hack up but not sure I'd be backing him tomorrow after such a long lay-off and over a trip too short imo. Baily Green and Texas Jack could be the value.

Also, Clondaw Court @ 5/4 could look good if he puts the underwhelming run over Christmas behind him and lives up to the hype.

Bank of Urban is proving good. Keep em coming. Plenty wheelbarrows to be filled!

Hard not to back Une Artiste @ 7/4 in the mares race, I'd have her as a about an even money shot.

also wouldnt be suprised if the Presott horse Miss Verdoyante starts a string of wins in the 6:00 @ Wolverhampton, the only real danger being Mark Johnston's Right of Appeal stepped up from 6f to 12f.

Thought it'd be priced up by now PP said they will have it done tonight. Stuck a 25 quid free bet on Venetia's horse in the third at MR, he travelled well in terrible conditions the last day in a good Cheltenham handicap before not staying. Down in trip and the handicapper has been very generous, only carries 10-3. The good people at Seaniemac will only let me have it at SP though, 4/1 is a very good price.

What are people's thoughts on Last Instalment

It was 3/1 with PP earlier tonight

Wouldn't be backing him tomorrow. Trip not ideal, back from a long lay off. Agree with jim, back him nrnb for the gold cup and just watch tomorrow.

I don't like having so many bets but Leish Oscar is about 4 points too big in the Mares chase at Thurles tomorrow. She's already much better over fences than hurdles, people seem to forget she was only beaten half a length by Rebel Fitz on her first start over fences (flattered by the proximity) but the third horse that day has won since and was runner up to Toner D'Oudairies in a Listed chase last week, while they were a dozen lengths clear of Ballyburke who easily won a novice at Cork.

She ran runner up to Speckled Wood at Wexford after that (8 lengths ahead of Blazing Sonnet who was only beaten three lengths by Aibrean who is a less price than Leish Oscar tomorrow), and it was a really strong lookng novice she won last time out at Down Royal with Rye Martini well held in third, the useful hurdler Wingtips well back and Seskinane was held when falling. Mullaghanoe River was travelling well when falling and beat a good horse in Si C'etait Vrai at the weekend at Punchestown.

Une Artiste should win this but Thurles is a tough track and is unforgiving particularly down the back with steep uphill fences and this ground will be plenty soft compared to what she is used to. If she under performs here (wouldn't be the first mare to) it looks wide open and 9s is far too big.

Going to Thurles tomorrow, just decided. Cup of tea with the future in laws and up to the track then so keep the fancies coming.

No odds up yet, but Coiste BoDhar is a very strong fancy for me in the opener at Wolves. I have it as being marginally better than the current favourite based on Southwell form, that combined with the slightly more favourable draw should see it having enough to see The Dandy Yank off. Winterwell carrying the extra weight is a negative for me with the mediocre times that it has run, so I've put a line through it. The other main threat here is the unexposed Crisis Averted, happy enough to take it on consider the trainers record this type of horse on AW.

Are on course odds generally worse than the shops? If I fancy a horse before I go to track would I be better off to back it in the bookies beforehand?

You are always better off backing off track with high street bookies rather than the track IMO. Firstly most off course bookies guarantee price. Secondly in the off chance that your horse gets thrown out by the stewards you wont get paid on course where as you will off course.

    +1 to all this.

The only plus sometimes if you fancy an outsider, for e.g a horse might be 20/1 in general but a couple of guys might have it up at 33's.

A smart phone with your online account at hand is prob the best option.

She mightn't be too keen on running either.

Baily Green is mammoth value at 11/2, I am going to double him with Byerly Babe @ 4/1 to give a handy 32.5/1 double

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

That horse I was on about fancying is Sarabad in the second last. 7-2 is a fair price and this looks a good opportunity for him, strong traveller who doesn't get three miles and is often well backed. He must work like a proper horse at home for connections to stick with him. I'd be disappointed if he couldn't win a race like this with a hood on first time

Was happy to take 4/1 on this courtesy of Bet365 this morning. Crisis Averted my only fear here, it may or may not be any good.

Ludo et Emergo 1.45 Thurles 16-1 hard to know with beginner chasers but has the pedigree and russell on boards so looks good to me.
Also gonna follow Nicholls at wincanton easy money:D

for the benefit of urban sea. owner says today not the day number 6 2.30 mr. wants it dropped a few more pound plus had its innoculations last week, jockey wouldn't need to stop it, nature will take care of that.

Think its spookydookeys day today 1.30 in Market Rasen and cannot believe that Oscar Delta is 7/4 in last at Thurles.

Might struggle to qualify based on today's run, 14th of 17th finishers, beaten out of sight.

Was waiting on Une Artiste fairly sick. I am excited about Clondaw Court but he is too short now to back. Last bet on Baily Green.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,219 ✭✭✭Goldcupfav

Ive had a decent bet on Argocat. Looked like a winner last time at Down Royal behind Rolling Aces when he fell at the last. Broke a few ribs that day so has been off since. Think 5/1 is a generous enough price.

And based on Fenton's comments. Wasn't bullish at all in the RP. Although I got the following text from one of the lads at the track:

"Jolly looks OK, good bit to work on but not fat or anything"

Clondaw Court is a proper horse, seen him winning his bumper (was very impressed.) I know connections of 2nd that day and i was told that CC was said to be a machine and to do forecast....it was a great result. I was disappointed with his performance at xmas but i have been waiting for him to run for a long time and he had Navan G1 or G2 entry in November.

You're obviously not aware of the horses record after a layoff. He has a super record in races with smaller fields over the trip & on the ground.

The stats were there for all to see, that's why he was backed! I backed baily green though so it doesn't matter anyway.

    Thought Lughnasa had it. Dam
Picked it as it finished ahead of Sarabad last time out, and
it was involved in some big races and not disgraced at all
    10-1 was nice considering.
