That's an impossible question to answer tbh. Only you can decide if the wage offered can meet your lifestyle expectations.

I know there are many variables but for rent, bills, food etc. would say 1k a month or so cover all that?

To have a life? 25k. It just depends on how you spend money!

Anything around €30,000 should be fairly decent outside of Dublin.

No it's not minimum wage but I'm just finishing college so want to get an idea what it costs to live!

€22k would have you renting a house, eating out once a week, or be able to afford having friends over for dinner, and 2 or 3 foreign holidays, within Europe, and be able to buy nice, but not extravagant clothes.

    Do you drive?
Are you gonna need sky tv, broadband?
    Mobile phone?
    Gym?
Rent a room or a whole apartment?
    Cook food or eat out?
    Drink/smoke?
    Designer clothes or penny's?

Answer those and you'll have a better idea.

'tis a very hard question to answer, I think you might be better off looking for a job, or even just looking for job adds and then see what they're paying and where they are.

Then you can sit down and work it out.

    rent
    electricity
    heating
    insurance
    car
    car tax
    insurance
    maintenance
    food
    tv
    broadband
    etc. etc. etc.

Also you'll probably find it varies wildly from person to person.

You're not suddenly going to change your lifestyle are you?

something to remember is that the tax man rides the hole off single people (like me). if you make anything over 25k you will pay 60% tax on it..

All you really need to know is rent you can figure the rest surely.

    No, Donegal.

I rented a nice 3 bed house for a hundred quid a week, near the sea, walking distance to major shops, town, etc. (the OP did say "outside Dublin").

Despite what people say, 22k a year (net) is actually a great salary. My gross salary was 24k, I paid 4k in tax, so it was actually €20k net. Despite all the complaining people do about punitive taxation, that's only 16% tax I paid as a full time PAYE worker.

Surfing every day, living in bliss, with €1700 net in my account every month and tiny rent, really now, anything else would have been greedy!:)

which part do you have a problem with ? look at rents outside of dublin if you don't believe me.

Some people in dublin pay 700 quid a month for bedsits. On the other hand,

€22k is a comfortable life outside of Dublin, for someone young with no family.

Me? Central Dublin on combined income of about €60,000 (we used to be on more before I went back to college). I reckon the cheapness of living as a couple cancels out the cost of Dublin living so €30,000 for the OP.

We spend around 3-5K on holidays each year, eat out once a week and pay the bills with a fair bit lest over for savings.

That should be grand outside of Dublin. You might struggle a bit to start with, just keep your rent down as much as pos.

So many lifestyle variables to consider.

You need to assess your intended lifestyle fully before assessing the necessary wage.

Living expenses for a single person are rarely simply half those of a couple. I'm not saying 30k won't be plenty, but this reasoning makes little sense in light of your comment regarding the cheapness of living as a couple.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 883 ✭✭✭Scouser

all depends where you live (rent)

    where you work (commute)

how you live (socialise, shop, car etc etc)

as a single man you would want 25k+ to even consider it

a house share would cost you 400quid min for a room

house rents go skyward from €1000
