Do you use your car to go to the corner shop?

My mother is incredibly lazy, if she wants to go to the corner shop which is a 2 minute walk, she drives. There's even another shop which is a 2 minute walk but about a 5 minute drive, if she wants something there, she drives. Everyone else in my extended family is also like this.
Does anyone else do this? And she doesn't only do it when it's raining or windy, she does it even when it's a beautiful day outside.

Do you still drive even when walking would take the same amount of time? 76 votes

    Yes, even in nice weather.

In my house the shop is a 5 minute walk away, we always walk. My sister always drives, and it's the Dundrum shopping centre so she just ends up sitting in traffic for 10 minutes.

My fiancé lives 2 minutes from the shop, he always knows when I'm feeling down because I make him drive up to the shop :o

Yeah I do but my corner shop is about 5 miles away.

A neighbour of mine does that. The fact that she's on blood pressure medication and has to go for regular doctor ordered walks, doesn't seem to stop her though. I could be over and back from the shop in less than 10 minutes, as could she, but she drives and it takes her twice as long:confused: People are strange.

My local shop is not on a corner....... Am I disqualified?

Sometimes, yup. My reasoning would be, well it's only a 5 minute walk so it's not like the exercise is going to do me much good. And if I drive I'll get it over and done with quicker. So why not?

What do you do with the corners?and how much are they?

Yes. You should demand that the shop be relocated to a corner at once.

Assumption that there exists a corner shop
Assumption that there exists a car
Assumption that there exists a willingness to go to a shop
Assumption that there exists a shop that sells corners

Same here, nearest shop is about 4 miles so I feel no shame when I say I almost always drive. As a matter of fact the only time I walked there was in december 2010 and I needed an Irish coffee in front of the fire in the pub in the village and 2 once I got home to recover.

    I don't have a car

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

As the nearest shop is over 6 miles away and I'm almost 70, then of course I take the car!!!!

I walk most of the time but when I am feeling lazy enough to drive I go to a shop that's further away in order to provide myself with some kind of justification for my laziness.

I never go to the shop, I do my grocery shopping once a week, I very, very rarely need to go to the local shop.

If I'm going to the shop that's about 10 minutes walk away, no but I admit I do drive to the Tesco which is about 20 minutes walk (each way).

I do exercise and play football generally but I work and have kids so I'm not going to waste 40 minutes of my free evening trudging up and down to the shops with bags on a route I've seen thousands of times before

Generally I walk but if it is raining or I am sick then the trusty ozone depleter on 4 wheels it is.

    Shop about 5 mins away.

I cycle or drive. My local shop (not a corner) is too far for walking.

Yes. That's what cars are for. Getting from A to B faster.

In fairness, in the age that we're living, you'd want to be a fool or a complete and utter wan*er to just jump in the motor to go 500 metres. And to the eegits that say "yeah, I drive"... either you're a Tommy Tiernan wannabe, or just complete idiot...we then like, the rest, can do our best!

That's 5 mins to shop and another 5 mins back... that 10 mins all adds up if you regularly walk places. Even it it's little excercise, fresh air can be very relaxing. Many of the people I know who over-use their cars all the time also happen to be really stressed out people.:P
Yes. That's what cars are for. Getting from A to B faster.

It's not always faster as some people mentioned. Some people just think it is. And then they complain about the price of petrol. Short journeys aren't very economical. What do you gain by always getting there slightly faster, other than weight? More time to sit down in front of the tv when you get back?:pac:

What's next, using a segway to get from from to room in your house?

I drive everywhere. To the shop. To the end of the road and back. To the kitchen then to bed. Meh

Just demolish one of the buildings to the side of the shop and build a road, them it's a corner shop! ;)

Driving to the corner shop is what separates us from the animals. Walking to the shop is for poor people and enviro-hippies. Sure, it may be unhealthy, but that's why I have health insurance.

How about if you drive to the shop in a Prius or one of them new electrical contraptions?

What if you drive in reverse down to the shop, it saves fuel, Stephen Hawking wrote a book about it.

my partner will drive to the shop. I normally walk(unless going with him).

    It's a 10minute walk down & another 10 back up,
    5minute drive...

    meh,
So do I tick yes I drive or no I walk? o0

Yup - my corner shop is about 3 miles away so def not walking :D

I'll drive to the shop that's 300 metres away from my house.

Saves me having to stop and talk to people. No point making yourself more accessible than necessary.

All corner/local shops are too dear, just visit aldi/lidl once a week and save a fortune. Even if you have to drive 10 miles to get there you are still saving after factoring in all motoring costs :)

My nearest aldi is 35 miles so I probably wouldn't save that much:o

Well it depends on what car you drive, you could spend €30 in a local shop and eat it after going home

I live on beer and pizza, and both are delivered.

    So no.

Thanks to the local councils comedy parking restrictions, my car is frequently parked further away than the nearest shop.

Used to walk everywhere until I recently injured my leg and now each step I take causes me considerable pain. As such, I've had to get the bus into the shop and I've started noticing that I'm putting on weight and feeling less energetic and happy as a result of not getting my walk.

Why would I go to the bother of walking, possibly in bad weather, when I have a car that will take me there in 15 seconds?

I drive the 10 minute walk cos I avoid meeting some of my despicable neighbours, with their equally despicable dogs who always want to seem to have a go at me!

My local shop is SQ Lucan, only 3 minutes' walk. But when you're doing the weekly shop it's a bit much to carry, so I drive sometimes and walk sometimes.

Our corner shop is centra. And they generally have similar offer to dunnes/tesco.
Their own brand milk is the same price as dunnes.

    they're not "too dear".

Partner has a thing against any milk thats not centra or dunnes

I have a 1959 Cadillac DeVille that I keep just for going down to the gate to get the post. Trips to the shop, I need hardly tell you, are something quite horrific.
