Hi all, looking to source ten foam rollers for the local gaa team. Have the grid roller myself and would be looking for similar as want ones that'll last. Anyone know where I'd get the best deal on buying these?

Sorry if I'm hijacking, but it does seem that you have your info already.

What parts of body should and should not be foam rolled?
I have been told not to do lower back but I see people do it all the time.

There is the potential for putting a bit too much pressure on the vertebrae and discs of the lower back with the foam roller. Better to use something smaller like a tennis ball, lacrosse ball or something along those lines.

I've been told to get one as well and see this one on sale... any use?

don't go for the 20 euro one in d8 anyway, i have that one and its not nearly hard enough compared to other ones ive used, i never bother using it i just feel there's too much give in it,I just use my lacrosse ball, also from d8 for a 5er well worth picking one up.

Edit: just looked at link, that's actually a different one than i have from d8, mine isnt a grid roller, mine is just the normal budget roller so that one might be ok!

I think foam rollers by design are just awesome. Grid isn't worth the extra IMO.

I'm always lured in my stuff that's proven to be near indestructible:pac:

The issue isn't foam rolling the muscles of the lower back but rather stretching the lumbar spine over the roller. Your lumbar spine is designed for stability, it doesn't to be stretch/mobilised.
I don't see an issue with using a roller or lacrosse ball on the muscles of the lower back with a braced spine, open to correction of course.

Gotten a good quote of foam rollers by design, just need to get the go ahead from the committee which as anyone who has ever dealt with one knows, can be a pain in the hole.

Depends on the size of your athletes. I have a couple of 110kg rugby players using ours and the ones from d8 cracked after 2 weeks. I am a big D8 fan and get most if not all my gear there but the best and most robust are the orange grids imho. The density foam ones are just not as good.

These guys will do you a deal on a multiple purchase and having shopped around its the best deal.

For Lacrosse balls in bulk, these guys are great, you will have to add on about 50 euro for import duty though.

Some hope. New manager in who seems to have a bit of sway with them is pushing it through. I showed them a short vid of a prowler in action to see if we could get one for conditioning but to be honest I might as well have been showing them a space ship.

if the commite don't approve there are tons of cheap "lifehack" alternatives you can use for the same purpose.

Look into PVC piping, wrapped in a few millimeters of padding. (thats all a grid/foamrollerbydesign roller is really)
semi deflated GAA balls/soccer balls/ old rugby ball, use your older balls and take about half the air out, they will work just like softer grid rollers.

sliotars, you may have a cheap source of them. I believe practice ones have smaller seams.

Golf and tennis balls, squash balls. all can be used over various parts of the body to achieve the same effect.

barbells, rolling pins wooden spoons etc.

Limbs of other people and your own self. you can get the same results by smashing, pair off the smashee lies down, the smasher use foot on thigh, elbow on back etc, may need a little knowledge of the technique before just wading in, take your cleats off first.

You can "roll" your calf muscles by using the shin of the other leg.

Plenty of "budget" options if you cant get a commercially made roller. or if money is too tight.

Mobilitywod.com and the supple leopard book have loads of examples of this.

I'd bought two previous rollers that cost as least as much as this one and not in the same league...not even the same sport as this one!

There has been a few changes with the outer material being a little stronger and harder. The join is a bit neater and the ends are machined for a clean finish.
I will pop you a sample next month when i expect to have tons of extra stock.
