Best film Trilogy ever

Bought Lord of the Rings trilogy on bluray last week and been watching it (again) all week, got me thinking as to what people regard as the best trilogy ever made?

Didn't want to post this in films forum as thought it would get a wider response here.

I'd go for Star Wars Eps 4,5 & 6, just edging LoTR.

The Godfather would have won if it hadn't been for 3, but then would it have been a trilogy?

Added some in a poll, just off the top of my head, sure i've left some, and i've ignored Indiana Jones 4

Whats the best film trilogy of all time? 522 votes

The Bourne trilogy, consistently good throughout imo. All other trilogies I have seen have a bad egg in them that kills them stone dead.

Apart from Empire, the entire Star Wars franchise is sh1t. I mean, Jedi is so bad. Just dreadful.

LOTR for me. No bad movie there, and each one better than the last.

another vote for the bourne movies

Why is Lethal Weapon in the poll???, there are 4 of them and the first two were the best by far.

Lethal Weapon is not a trilogy though, there was four.

Voted for Back to the Future but that's because the Speed trilogy wasn't listed. Speed 3 was savage, Dougal on the milk float beats all.

Am I going mad or have there been four Bourne movies (with more on the way)?

Yes, the fourth is not related to the trilogy as it's a new agent. It's not part of the Jason Bourne trilogy.

    The Dark Knight Trilogy.

    The Barrytown Trilogy......

    The Commitments
    The Snaper
    The Van

You're going mad, there's only three.

There was talk of making another but when Greengrass and Damon decided not to pursue it the studio also wisely decided not to proceed.

Lord of the Rings would be my favourite trilogy but I think Bourne is the most consistent in terms of quality.

Well I can't think of another trilogy series that didn't f up big time. All the others let themselves down in one way or another.

No mention of the 'Fluffers from Fannytasia" trilogy.

Those movies defined the 70s underground movie scene....and the 80s under the counter scene.

Not in the poll but for me, it's Before Sunrise/Before Sunset/Before Midnight. A trilogy that follows the meeting and subsequent relationship between Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy. Lovely series of movies, beautifully shot ablnd brilliantly acted, complimented by an excellent, intelligent script.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,986 ✭✭✭GhostInTheRuins

Has to be the Maniac Cop trillogy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,174 ✭✭✭✭Captain Chaos

I would have liked to say Alien if they didn't go and make the travesty that is the fourth movie.

There was a fourth in the franchise. The Bourne Legacy. No Damon in it. The purists do not recognise it....kinda like the way I do not recognise The God father 3.

The first three still count as a trilogy.

This would probably get my vote too. But of course the 4th installment will come in 8 years time.

There were four. The Fourth, The Bourne Legacy was not part of the original trilogy and involved another agent.

    The 'Dollars Trilogy' for me.

    A Fistful of Dollars

    For a Few Dollars More

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

    .......Cinematography at its best

For me the quality of Godfather I and II more than make up for III. When viewed in totality for me they're miles ahead of any of the other trilogies listed here.

Also a cool 'loose' trilogy is the Cornetto Trilogy starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.

    Hot Fuzz
    Shawn Of The Dead
    The World's End.

    The Godfather
surely all 3 films have to be good. That's why I went for Indiana Jones.

I;d have gone for The Godfather. But, the third isn;t all that great.

The third Back to the Future is awful.

    The Vengeance Trilogy which is;
    Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance
    Oldboy

    The Godfather for me.

Three Colours Red, White and Blue worth a mention too.

Back to the Future and Crocodile Dundee should have been left alone.

I think you'll all find that P The Vengeance Trilogy by ark Chan-wook was the best trilogy ever. Especially Oldboy.

The Godfather 1 and 2 were brilliant but 3 was just awful. Three colours trilogy was brilliant - havent seen it in years though.
