Connection of two tubes (same diameter) and allow rotation to each or just one? ideas

Hi,

Currently in the process of creating a wheelchair attachment of an art easel.
My idea would inhibit the use of the upper section of the frame work which the user can swivel the easel away from them or towards them. It would have to be stiff movement or else any pressure on the work surface would cause it to swivel itself.
Im in need of any ideas, components I may add or any PVC pieces? I have had no luck thus far in researching any workable ideas.

Any help is highly appreciated !

How heavy is the easel? How ridge do you need it to be? How light weight do you need it to be?

You could use 20mm PVC electrical conduit if the easel isn't too heavy. They sell all sorts of fittings for this too and it can be bonded. If you need something stronger use 20mm steel conduit.

Fuzzy Clam

You could try 3/4 inch copper water pipe with a straight joiner. This would allow you tighten the joint to a degree that would still allow it to rotate.

The easel itself will compose of a galvanised sheet of Steel (40cmx50cmx0.6cm) and a board of plywood same size with a width of 1.2cm, plus enamel paint and Aluminium trimming so the weight may be more necessary for a Steel conduit.

This is for my A2 level product, and so I am quite alienated with some of the components you are both mentioning, would it be possible if you could link an example image of what I can look for based on what you've previously mentioned. Just a single image is fine, and thanks again!

Make the bar ( red & black in your sketch ) one-piece instead

-put a pivot of some sort at the bottom of it

-put a clamp that can be released at about hand-height ( relative to sitting in the chair) to allow it to turn

Well its one single bar of Aluminium, it shall attach to the wheelchair via a steel eye end and a top hinged jaw slide.
My idea was rather than having the single piece of Aluminium tubing, cut the single bar into two, in order to allow a swivel point mid way; unless I can maybe drill a pilot hole into the steel eye end itself and introduce a pin so that the user themselves can tighten/loosen from there which would allow free movement as the user wishes and also locked when tightened... Getting some ideas now ^^

put the swivel at the 90 degree bend ? lots of options for parts then

think of a tv wall bracket arm ,operates the same way on a joint can hold and rotate a 40 kg tv so would be no problem for an easel
