Leaving tasks to the last minute

I was given an assignment in October, due tomorrow, and I started it yesterday. Absolute disaster, kicking myself for not starting it earlier.

Have you any good stories of rushing to meet deadlines from putting things off to the last minute?

Due tomorrow? Do tomorrow. In my class we say nothing makes an engineer more productive than the last minute.

In college they had a workshop on procrastination and I thought to myself "hmm, that will be useful for me, I'll just go to the next one", next one came around and I said the same thing again.

I always leave tasks till the last minute OP and that's why I still wear nappies.

    Procras.........

Fuggit I'll finish typing it tomorrow.

13000 words due for Monday. 8000 done as of this minute.

I have no "got the assignment done on time" stories OP, they're all last minute things. I've always gotten good enough marks too, I just function best under pressure. I think. I've never been organised enough to have a point of comparison.

Never put off until tomorrow what you can do today so you can do something different tomorrow.

I did all my assignments at the last minute for my LLB, I give my best work under the pressure of the clock.

Looks like I'm the only one that likes to get assignments finished ASAP. Preferred to have college projects finished 2-3 weeks early to reread & update.

One assignment given in October and two in November. Typed 14,000 words between Tuesday and Thursday. Have the last one to do tonight due tomorrow. Have volunteer work between 6 and 9 this evening.
If I can report back that it has been done, I'd like a small parade.

Complete the report in 10,000 words or so.

Whenever I get an assignment done well in advance, which is very rare, either the lecturer then offers a whole different take on it that's a lot better than mine so I end up redoing most of it anyway, or else I get so panicked by everyone else's "omg that's such a hard assignment I don't even know where to start" that I doubt myself and worry until the due date, which is worse than panicking over getting it done in time.

I usually need the deadline looming to get myself motivated, otherwise I keep saying "ah I have the groundwork done, its just a case of putting it all down on paper", that is never the case.

Have 5000 words due for midnight tonight, know about it since early October, plan on making a start as soon as the Liverpool match is over.:mad::mad: Everyone has one talent, mine's procrastination.

The last minute dash basically ends up being my action plan for everything. I think I just need the adrenaline to work well. When I was in uni I had an awful habit of going on nights out, then coming home and writing essays to be handed in the next day. Somehow I always did fine. Every time I end up pulling an all nighter or leaving something till the last possible minute I promise myself that I'll be more prepared next time around. That has yet to happen.

I have 3,000 words due for Tuesday. I'm normally prepared-ish for assignments but I dislike the module/lecturer. Typed 700 or so bullsh!t words today. Finding my Roget's Thesaurus riveting at the moment.

I thought I was the only person who left things to the last minute. I love the solidarity of this thread.

You sit in front of the laptop with great ideas of doing some work and you end up playing Candycrush or the likes on facebook.

Mind you I have finished my review of work for last December tonight, through gritted teeth, and many failed attempts at getting through Candycrush in the meantime. Gritted teeth at Candycrush too....mad game!

My God, reading this thread makes me feel orgasmic that I've finished with thesis/homework deadlines.

Having said that, that type of sh*t just continues in work life - always something on the horizon to make me feel uneasy (but not uneasy enough that I get it done with time to spare :()

Oh I know! Every so often over Christmas my mind would wander over to the work I should be doing but instead I left it all up to future-me, which is currently preset-me....past-me is such a dick.

Try doing a 4000 word essay and input 25 rows and 20 columns of numbers in SPSS. All done within a day and one horrible horrible night. Sense of achievement though was huge. Been pretty on the ball about assignments since then. Just get them done.

I've had 5 essays and a presentation due this week, only started each the night before.. So much coffee and lack of sleep. And I've known about them since the start of November.

My last essay is due tomorrow, and I'm on Boards.. Having not started yet.

Thank fuk I didn't know about Boards when I was doing my finals, and Facebook was only in its infancy.

I very sensibly didn't go to the pub last night because I had a load of work to do, so instead I stayed in, watched Sherlock and did hardly any work, then my friends came back from the pub with a load of beer and so I ended up pulling an all-nighter with one of them, getting langered and waiting for my other friend to get back from the airport at ten am (I think he was touched, he was definitely amused). Then I had a nap. I would've been better off going to the bloody pub.

So I've had 3 hours sleep since 11am Saturday, I still have 750 words and a bibliography to do, I know I have to be up at 8am, and yet here I am doing nothing. It's the darnedest thing.

You can tell when I've got work due because I'm all over this place like a rash!

I tend to procrastinate and then go mad to catch up. Have missed probably 6 flights. I realize that adrenalin is a drug and I guess I'm an adrenalin junkie.
    But that is me.
My wife often gets on to me about it but it's in one ear and out the other. She likes to be everywhere early but I make sure that she doesn't break protocol. :D
