    Hi all,
A group of my friends are going to search fro accommodation on pearse st for next year. I was just wondering, when should one start looking?
Is there anywhere on Pearse st. that's relatively cheap and close to the TBSI?
    Thanks in advance. :)

If ye're looking for a house, anytime from June on would be alright. Looking now wouldn't be advisable, because you wouldn't be moving it til September.

If you get a place in June/July though, you might have to start paying rent straight away, because its tough for anyone to find a place, let alone students, and renting is a business, so the landlord probably won't want the place ot be lying idle so you can move into it middle of September.

Yeah that'd be fine. But it seems a bit late. Like there is always a huge rush and I'd imagine decent properties would fly out! ?
    Maybe I'm wrong though :(

Your typical student houses fly off the market when available. I've friends who lived near UCD, and got notifications from Daft when houses in their range came on the market. They viewed about 3/4 places a week until middle of August when they finally got a place. Place nearly always goes to the professionals, so whenever you start viewing is when you need to start paying really

Thats why people sometimes wait til September, and in other years this was fine. But 2013 was the worst year ever for rental properties, there was less than half the amount on the market as same period last year.

I have first hand experience of how hard it is to get a place in September as a student with no references, well no real ones anyway :pac:

It's not as good as you'd expect tbh.

I've heard of people getting their place in May. I guess considering how bad Dublin was this year paying August isn't the worst but anymore than that or July and it starts to get a bit mad.

Same with me. I had no idea how hard it would be finding any sort of rented accommodation this year... Eventually found a place around mid September, even though we started at the beginning of August. It was myself and two other male student friends with no previous landlord references (other than halls). Literally the worst demographic, so be prepared to lose many an accommodation bid to both professionals and other female students. (If you're a group of guys).
Agreed that its far too early to look now though, have glance on daft and see whats actually going, nothing student-friendly will up earlier than mid May I'd say.

What don't you like about halls? Just wondering since it seems to be a 50/50 split from asking people around TCD.

I was going to move into halls in September but pulled out at the last minute. Really regretted it since my accommodation for the entire first semester got messed up and i feel like i missed out on some of the social events they had. Only moved into a new more permanent apartment this week in grand canal dock near Pearse street.

Just a heads up, be prepared to be spending a fair bit on rent for a decent place near Pearse street. Believe it or not there are some very dodgy places at night around there even though it's so close to TCD you wouldn't think it. Ask around about the particular area if you see a fairly cheap rent.

Well it's a combination of things really. If you're a person who from time to time likes peace, halls is awful! It's constant partying and no study is done! It's can be great and there's no denying it, it's lots of fun but can be tiring!
I also don't like my roommate, it's an awful scenario really!
The distance from tcd is ridiculous for the price!
Ya I heard its expensive alright! I'll start looking in may :-)
