Whats is your opinion on neck tattoos?

They seem to be very popular these days. I often see many people with them when out and about and have a friend who decided to get one. I think they can look ok if the tattoo is of a high quality and the design itself isn't to tacky, but i don't think i would get one myself.

Do you think you would get one done?

I wouldn't get one personally but I love tattoos. I don't want any very visible ones though, I only get them in places I can easily cover.

Well I think it will be difficult to get an office job with one. As humans we judge people on first impressions and a neck tattoo isn't a great one. Styles and tastes change over time. And something which seemed a fantastic idea in 2014 when you were 25 probably won't be great when you are an OAP

Bit off topic but this one in my village got her babys feet tatooed on her shoulder towards the back but alas the artist just used the same foot as a template giving the baby two left feet!

They just make you more vulnerable to predjudice in the work place etc .. Also look really scummy.

Seen a guy in the airport last week who had a lower back one, right at the bottom of the spine and thought it looked very effeminate.

Neck are okay as long it's positioned so wearing a shirt covers it when needed.

I think a tattoo on the neck or face should be treated as a cry for help.

I'm sure he did look very effeminate if he was exposing his lower back

I don't like them at all, especially on males,I do know a few lady's who have them at the nape of the neck which can be hidden by there hair when they choose.

I think they look lovely when done well, sadly they interfere with job prospects though.

You'd need your head examined to get one. By a tatooist.

I like em. Getting a new tattoo in a few weeks, might go for the back of the neck this time. I know for a lot of people it might automatically make me a scumbag idiot but I think I'll listen to my clean criminal record and masters degree instead of those people.

I have one on the back of my neck but its usually covered cos I have long hair! I'm a girl! It's tiny so don't know do people notice it not whb my hair is up. But I don't like ones on the side of your neck, would never get one.

Depends: if you're a knacker, I'd be able to identify which family you belonged to
If you weren't, I'd be able to tell you which family you wanted to belong to.
    Either way, no!!!

Depends, scumbags tend to have a knack of picking neck tattoos that just makes them look even scummier (and the tattoo itself is typically horrendous in its design). Whereas if you were just a lad or lassie who likes their tattoos and in turn are quite tasteful when it comes to their design then they can look rather cool, I find they work well on someone with full sleeve of tattoos on one or both of their arms, it just looks well.

A bit off the topic, but generally speaking, "stand alone" tattoos (as in not part of a sleeve or large section of tattoos) tend to look utterly daft.

For some reason, a butterfly was the big one to get behind the neck in 5th year.

Ruling yourself out of almost any office job with it.

I remember Getting started on by a coked up scumbag who had a manky looking one, they weren't as popular then, this was years ago, thought they were scummy looking then and still think there scummy.

Good tattoos look well, cheap tattoos make you look awfull.

Anyone considering a tatt should take into account the limiting effect they can have on your life.

If you are skilled enough at your chooses proffesion to make it despite the doors it will close on you by all crack on.

I no a guy with "not guilty" tattooed on his face. He is now in prison. He plead guilty.

They are the epitome of rough.

Edit: The can look cool on a pretty young girl of a certain style when well done. Everywhere else big no no.

This what you had in mind?

I have never seen anyone have a neck tattoo who didn't look like an utter scumbag!

People say you should never judge someone on their appearance. I met a girl once in a bar who had a spider web on her neck. Needless to say i went home with her
I should have judged her on the tatoo and ran a mile. I personally think it screams scum

I've never been able to get my head around some people's distrust and apprehension about people getting tattoos. I mean it's not as if they're holding you down and forcing you to get tattooed yourself just because they happen to have one is it?

A neck tatoo proves they are either an idiot or have no self respect. The latter meaning they are unlikely to respect others

    Ok I'll bite...

How on earth does one deciding to get a tattoo correspond with them having no self respect? People modify their bodies all the time.

Did you have a shave this morning? Yep you've modified your body so.
How about your last haircut? Yep you've modified your body again.
Lost/put on a few pounds? Guess what you've done again...

    And so on

Don't be so ridiculous, where as I am not to fond of them I would not say they have no respect for themselfs or are idiots.

So you had a bad experaence with a girl with a spider tattoo, it could have been worse it could have been the girl with the dragon tatto, she was wired.

Talking about self respect ,there people out there who think picking up girls in bars don't have much respect for themselfs either.

Great to see the old nonsense notions that tattoo =rough and therefore unemployable is still alive and kicking.

    What utter tripe

Its a big difference to put the likes of a spider web on your neck because it looks cool ( or scummy). Thats permanent and will exclude you from jobs. That is a fact whether you like it or not. I would not hire a idiot and thats what they are. In many cases the neck tatoo shows a scummy element. I do understand the few people who are obsessed with tatoos and get proper artwork on their bodies who do not fall into this catogary

Body art meets popular science in this elegant, mind-blowing collection, written by renowned science writer Carl Zimmer. Showcasing hundreds of eye-catching tattoos that pay tribute to various scientific disciplines, from evolutionary biology and neuroscience to mathematics and astrophysics, Science Ink reveals the stories of the individuals who chose to inscribe their obsessions in their skin. Best of all, each tattoo provides a leaping-off point for bestselling essayist and lecturer Zimmer to reflect on the science in question, whether it's the importance of an image of Darwin's finches or the significance of the uranium atom inked into the chest of a young radiologist.

I wouldn't, being a permanent resident in Ireland(Well, currently) but I would living in most other European countries.

Doctors in the likes of Sweden would be seen with full tattoo sleeves and not a word said to them, Ireland is quite backwards when it comes to it's view on tattooing.
