If journalists and the like start saying 'X, Y and Z happened Toozday' insted of X, Y and Z happened ON Tuesday I will genuinely lose all hope for the English language.

I'd give it about a year or two before that's the norm. Same with "Two thousand fourteen" instead of "Two thousand AND fourteen"

    Yeah but...Dunnes Shops?

I give Dunnes a pass on that one, as it's built into the name of the company.

But Dunnes Stores is a shop. It's called Dunnes Stores because they use stores at the back to keep all the stock prior to putting on display on the SHOP floor.

    Now, p*ss off

I hate the way non-thinking Americanisms are creeping into our language at an exponential rate.

The current trend on radio advertising is to talk about "stores" when what they really mean is "shops".

Don't get me wrong, I'm guilty of the odd Americanism myself, and some of them are very descriptive and useful (e.g. the saying, 'don't even go there' used to annoy me but actually it's a succinct way of warding somebody off a potentially ruinous conversation).

But radio advertisers have plenty of time to edit, re-play and refine their messages, and there is simply no reason in the world to call shops "stores". It's not more helpful, more descriptive or fancier sounding, it's just brainless.

    Kelloggs country ...shop

When you stumble upon "Maria Callas, Ave Maria" on Youtube and settle down for 3 minutes of musical bliss...and then realise it's in German :(

I hate the way the self service machines in Tesco speak with a British accent.

The machines in Supervalue are even worse. It sounds like Stephen Hawking with a sore throat.

Truly trivial...when I see people turn a page corner down to mark their place in a book. It shouldn't annoy me, it's not my book...but if does. I don't even know why! :D

As a cashier, I find it incredibly annoying when people put money on the counter instead of handing it to me.

Walking up or down stairs in the dark & you misjudge the last step, either thinking their is one more, or missing one completely.

End up doing an embarassing stumble, at least no-one sees it happen.

People who mis-treat and have no respect for books in general, it used drive me barmy in school when people used write on their books or just throw them into their schoolbags, my mother used call the turned down corners "dogs ears", horrible way to treat a book!

I know we have some fans of them around here, but kindle owners? Not the same, not the same! :pac:

When you find the blood from someone's papercut in your library book.

Also motorists who don't slow down when they're driving through a puddle just when you're walking past it, so you have to run to avoid getting drenched. Bastards.

I know that's the custom with some of the foreign shop owners.

They put the change on the plate and pass the plate to you.

It's a small thing but think they should adapt to how we give out the change correctly. Small things matter, and enough of them added up become big things

I worked with someone who would do that finger licking thing when she took stuff off the printer. I used to collect anything I printed quick smart before she got anywhere near it.

My boss has one of those spongey things that you use to wet your finger to turn pages. She pours a drop of water on it to moisten (I hate that word) it. Can you imagine the bacteria on that thing?? She always offers me the use of it when I'm going through a large file, eh no thanks :o

Bottle of Milton, douse it regularly for her :D

The dusty useless crumbs at the end of the cereal. There's still half a bowl worth of good flakes but all that comes out is the bloody grit :(

That happens a lot on the touch site alright, not so much on the desktop site. I think I thanked a post and then when I'm reading back through the thread a couple of weeks later- "Heyyy..." :(

Meanwhile, was just watching "The Taste" there (cookery competition like X Factor), and with the usual waterworks one of them comes out with "cooking is my life!"

Well when you get the opportunity to cook for the world's top chefs, cooks and food critics - don't serve up shìt!

    It's that simple.

You're not alone. I like it too, especially with Start cereal.

Celebrity awards speeches. Now I rarely watch award ceremonies, I've no interest in them or the vacuous celebrities but sometimes I'll catch a snippit of say Beyonce, doing a 'I'd like to thank my Lord Jesus Christ, my personal Saviour' after performing that song Drunk in love. Total hypocrisy. Incidentally I've no interest in how she shags her husband and I'm no prude but I do find the lyrics to it really vulgar.

    *I feel old now.

When you belch and it comes out a lot louder than you anticipated.

When you fart and it comes out a lot smellier than you anticipated.

When you think you're going to fart but you end up with a shart.

Depends on the celebrity, Bryan Cranston at the Screen Actors Guild awards for example -

Worse - when you fart and it burns the fooking arse off you and feels like a hot knife has just sliced through your sphincter.
