No. My grandfather smoked, drank whiskey & shot up heroin all his life & lived till he was 95. I don't need to live to 105.

I don't do any of the above, so, yes.

Why would I want to spend another ten years living like a miserable shìt?

No way in hell. Growing old is highly overrated. Live a great life and burn out young is how I want to go

10 years of someone changing your bed pan? Not being able to move around, will be the worse time of your life....why would you want that.

The phrase 'here for a good time, not for a long time' comes to mind. Plus I'd dread to think what quality of life you'd get at the end

Same here. Not sure why, but this depresses me. I think I maI have wasted my life. Maybe I will start smokin' and drinkin' and cussin' and whorrin' my way to an early but happy grave.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,516 ✭✭✭wazky

Depends, will I make it to 90 using drugs etc or am I going to die tomorrow unless I stop my indulgence?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,863 ✭✭✭✭crosstownk

This poll confuses me. Read it again.....carefully.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,295 ✭✭✭✭MadYaker

You fúcked up the poll. But I choose drugs and drink. The last ten years of your life will probably suck anyway because you'll be old and decrepit.

is it just me, or does the poll make no sense?

Live 10 healthy extra years, or live without drugs/alcohol???? Looks a bit messed up. Should it not be

    1. Drink, Smoke and do drugs
    2. Do none of the above and live 10 extra healthy years.

Yeah - it's fcuked up. OP had to much to drink between his meds. Simples. 10 years less for him :D

There have been studies taking place trying to figure out exactly why people in the mediterranean are often active into their 90s, Okinawans are in great health at the same age and generally die quick deaths rather than being drugged up and bed bound for years, as in Hunza and many other case studies around the world. The world health organization for example declare Bama in China a hometown for longevity a few years ago because cancer and heart disease are extremely rare and they found farmers still working over the age of 100! Of course they could be lucky with genes, climate etc. but it's likely to be at least partially due to the cultural basis of their diet and lifestyle.

Anyway, getting old doesn't necessarily mean developing dementia and other health problems.

People have the wrong attitude to living longer. The idea is to be able to look after yourself until 90 and then drop dead, rather than just consistently on the slide from say 60s as we see more of in the western world.

I don't do any of those things. Not for health reasons; they just don't interest me.

I don't subscribe to the notion that people that partake in these activities aren't miserable. I see people standing outside pubs smoking and they don't exactly look like they're a barrel of laughs.

I gave up smoking 10 months ago.

My aunt died because of lung cancer 12 months ago (smoked 40-60 a day).

My aunt smoked 40 + a day, my uncle (her husband, who never smoked) when he had a couple of pints, just sang, that would be it, but yet died of a cancer that was spread throughout his body!

Another uncle died of liver failure. 2 aunts and 1 uncle died because of complications due to diabetes.

Another friend I knew who cycled weekly, regardless. He passed away...and he was one person who just exercised and did whatever...but yet, met a demise...way too early!

When your time is up, your time is??....

Poll makes zero sense. I'll change it if the OP figures out what's wrong with it. But only the OP. No helping him now folks, that be cheating.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,881 ✭✭✭TimeToShine

I'm sure if you asked this question to a demographic that wasn't in the 18-39 age group you'd get a vastly different response.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,863 ✭✭✭✭crosstownk

Can't change the poll. The poll makes sense to me. A staright forward question

To me, it looks like an AND argument rather than an OR argument. Polls are *usually* OR arguments.

I don't smoke and have no interest in it, and I've given up alcohol and coffee cold turkey easily enough before. But still ... no, I like things. and having options of things
Also I could get knocked over or something next week or tomorrow or next year!

Sorry folks . if this is acceptable. post this. thank you mods and posters

    1. Live without Alcohol, Smoking, or any other addictive substances
    2. Do none of the above and live 10 extra HEALTHY years.

    Too many double negatives.

    1. Smoke, drink, drugs = shorter life (-10 years).
    2. Don't smoke, don't drink, don't do drugs = longer life (+10 years).

    Simples.
