    As per title.

What is his real agenda in North Korea. I find it hard to believe it is because Kim is his BFF.

Is it financial ? Rodman is worth negative $1 million. Is he working with the US government and feeding back information ?

    Strange stuff all the same.

He's trying to find out if it is physically possible for him to penetrate a korean woman. Kim Jong Un was curious to find out too.

He went there originally with VICE to take part in a basketball game. Kim Jong Un was a massive bulls fan growing up and he invited him into his private box for the game

Rodman has since gone back three times and met KJU on numerous occasions

Probably getting paid by kimmy, getting a few quid back home for interviews and ridin' man, woman and beast whilst he's out there.

He's bonkers. Who cares why he does anything? He doesn't know himself why he does anything! He just does stuff.

    Flight from Bejing

Even though it's difficult to really say anything about his relationship with Kim, I'd say Rodman is just doing this for publicity.

He is just batsh1t crazy and probably getting decent money too.

What if North Korea is really free and wealthy and peaceful, and we are the ones living in repression, poverty and war? It's kind of like the Matrix.

    Kim Jung Ill is Neo.

    He is THE ONE.

I don't even know who rules NK now probably not Kim

Hard to really put a finger on what Rodman is up to there.

I'm going to guess that he really does think that 'Basketball Diplomacy' is something that can work and that the piles and piles of overly positive jargon that the NK authorities have likely placed on his shenanigans, has cemented his belief in all of this.

However, I'm more likely to believe that he's now gotten drunk on the attention he has received (not to mention the booze if his apology is be believed), and with NK folk going nuts for him as well as the world media, he is probably doing all of this to keep himself in the lime-light.

Him singing Happy Birthday to Kim Jr. at the game, kind of makes me believe in the latter possibility :)

Now I kind of feeling sorry for the more level-headed NBA veterans he brought with him, who probably now realise how bad an idea this trip really was. I can only imagine the scene when the arrive back in the US!

I'd imagine he supplies the CIA with all the information they want.

It's funny how Rodman gets berated for hanging out with this cunt when our own western 'Dear Leaders' are just as comfortable hanging out with mass murderers and despots.

After hearing him sing Happy Birthday to the great leader a-la Marilyn Monroe I'm beginning to think that NorthKorea has something seriously weird on him and they're blackmailing him!

Ever hear of 'agents of influence'?
They were all the go back when Soviet Russia was a bit like North Korea is today.
Useful idiots would be a more common name for them, I guess.

Oh, so then what's the mystery? Has to be money motivated if that's the case.

    Just seen this "apology" posted:

Two issues at play here. How does Rodman benefit and what does KJU get out of the arrangement?

Rodman seems simple enough - money appears to be the motivating factor. I also considered the possibility that he's providing information to the CIA but listening to the guy speak I can't help but think they'd be better off just asking KJU himself. Rodman makes even the craziest totalitarian dictator look sane in comparison. Either that, or he's pulled off the greatest undercover agent stunt in history.

Kim-Jong-Un is a little bit more complex. Rodman obviously has no useful information. A propaganda tool - I'd say most North Koreans haven't even seen a basketball or a 6' 7" giant black man so wouldn't mean anything to them. Perhaps Kim simply likes his basketball and Rodman is the perfect play toy, which makes things a lot more dangerous since spoilt kids inevitably bore of their trinkets. I imagine KJU pestering Rodman to bring over Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen next time!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 245 ✭✭Hedgemeister

These people don't do it for money.
Brink of retirement sportsmen/women, out of work/failed actors/actresses, people needing to build a profile with a view to a future political career or such like.
Maybe Rodman wants to be nominated Unofficial US Ambassador to NK, seeing as he has the ear of the great Leader ?
(There's no such thing as bad publicity)
It's all about having or expanding or ressurecting a flagging profile, the Talk Show circuit, speaking engagements, etc etc.

  • Site Banned Posts: 348 ✭✭Khomeini

There is no evidence to suggest DPRK are paying Rodman any cash to visit. It is likely Rodman is in receipt of payment from Western Media outlets such as Vice.

His recent trip was his gift to the Marshall.

That's not true. Basketball has been around in DPRK for a long time.

DRPK has tall people and has black people residing in the country.

Basketball is probably the most popular sport in DPRK (since the 90s).

Maybe he's trying to see if he can get the dear leader to wear a dress. Kim appears on TV and makes an address to the people in full makeup and a skirt. The North Korean people suddenly realise that he's not a God and bang the revolution begins.

NK has to be the most messed up country in the world. It is disgraceful.

Westerners only see Pyongyang when they visit and that is under strict supervision. They use actors to portray that everything in the country is great and the outside world is wrong with its view of the country.

This comes from a country that starves its population, has an electric fence the ENTIRE length of the border between South Korea and the North so you cannot leave and commits mass genocide on a yearly basis.

Have to laugh when the US send food aid to the country and when some people asked why do those boxes have the American flag on them they were told, "it is tribute" from America as they fear North Korea.....

Also - Go to youtube and take one look at the EYE Doctor that was sent to NK. That 1 hour documentary says it all about the country...

After spending some time in DPRK and having what I would consider researched a fair bit I am in support of the system and am proud of the young Marshall.

No I have never been to a prison in DPRK. Like any country, it wouldn't be a place I would want to visit.

Furthermore, I wouldn't insult the workers of Korea by dictating how prisoners should and shouldn't be treated. A significant amount are jailed for their attempts to overthrow true socialism. This is a threat to all Korean people and has to be dealt with.

He's a CIA plant. They sent him in to get close to KJU and when the time is right he will assassinate him and his successor will be a CIA "asset" who will help move the country forward and into line with US policies. Worked in Iran...

He's not exactly being subtle though is he?

And he's also more than a little mad...if he's a plant of any sort the CIA should be shiiting themselves in case he defects to the other side.

F*** Sake!!! Listen to yourself. A massive % of the people in prison did NOTHING wrong. For example, if you did something that was deemed wrong in NK, it is not just you that suffers, you ENTIRE family are sent to the camps...
