Will Austin be hosting again? The elimination promos he used to do were amazing!

It was announced at the WWE quarterly earnings conference call. So the announcement was low in the detail.

The date given for the UK WWE Network launch is still the not specific late 2014/early 2015 time frame.

How did the last Tough Enough fare in the ratings? I had a look at the tweets from the conf. call and got the impression WWE are maybe a tad clueless about their own network.

    http://whatculture.com/wwe/wwes-q1-conference-call-everything-learned.php
Because the new TV deal was off-the-table, there was a lot of talk about the WWE Network. A five-tier strategy for growing subscription numbers was outlined which included:

    1. Creating New Content
    2. New Geographies
    3. New Distribution Platforms
    4. New Features
    5. Executing Marketing Campaign

Details of these initiatives included mentioning new shows (such as new season Tough Enough), promising the international WWE Network rollout (should start in late 2014), adding WWE Network to more plaforms (XBOX One, Amazon Fire, SmartTVs), adding new features to WWE Network (bookmarking and playlist tools to highlight “favorite content”), and more marketing about the network.

Wrestling is their bread and butter and I'd have thought a top priority would to make PPVs (or "Special Events" whatever...) very special and must-see shows.

wow they are really trying to erase Punk! Self Destruction of CM Punk on the way? So silly Vince takes such a spiteful stance with some people.

Don't think they're erasing him tbh. Punk's merchandise still sells well. Maybe it's an in-joke we're not privvy to. His face is still on other PPV icons on the network.

    Yup

Made Sting is a star. It was a show that counterprogrammed Wrestlemania IV - a PPV that was an utter snooze fest. WCW presented a show around a really great match that launched a new star.

Clash of the Champions XXII is up randomly

Watch the first five minutes for a camp show open and a TERRIBLE promo by Erik Watts.

They also countered Mania V with a Clash headlined by Steamboat/Flair. This was due to McMahon strong arming the cable companies and warning them not to carry JCP/WCW PPVs.

Nice find with Clash 22. I'm on the PS3 and can't access it though. I hate that there's sneaky stuff available on the browser but inaccessible elsewhere

Just watching King Of The Ring 1999 on the Network and oh my god the crowd was red hot throughout! It made every match seem important.

A metal cup got a pop a main eventer these days would be proud of.

There's a decent hardy boys vs edge and Christian and there's an incredible spear from edge on Jeff in that match. Worth checking out for the spear alone!

Woop! The first Clash of the Champions is playable on PS3

    The card:
NWA World Television Title College Rules Match Mike Rotunda (w/Kevin Sullivan) (c) vs. Jimmy Garvin (w/Precious)

NWA United States Tag Team Title Match The Midnight Express (Bobby Eaton & Stan Lane) (w/Jim Cornette) (c) vs. The Fantastics (Bobby Fulton & Tommy Rogers)

Barbed Wire Six Man Tag Team Match Dusty Rhodes & The Road Warriors (Road Warrior Animal & Road Warrior Hawk) (w/Paul Ellering) vs. Ivan Koloff & The Powers Of Pain (The Barbarian & The Warlord) (w/Paul Jones)

NWA World Tag Team Title Match Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard (w/JJ Dillon) (c) vs. Barry Windham & Lex Luger

NWA World Heavyweight Title Match Ric Flair (c) vs. Sting

Highly recommend this if you're new to 80s NWA. The crowd was superhot in stark contrast to the dull Wrestlemania IV audience which was made up of wealthy gamblers from Trump's casino.

1998 WCW Souled out - Nash's botched powerbomb on The Giant.... Wow, tis a wonder Big Show is still walking after that...Good match thought.

One of funnier things about that was that match was delayed from Starrcade. When in real life according to the dirtsheets Nash got wind of the idea that The Giant was going to do a MOONSAULT on to Nash as the finish and Nash phoned in sick.

Nash side of the story was that he ate tainted pot brownies and started having heart trouble and had to go to E.R. .

Wow Terry Funk suffocating Ric Flair with a plastic bag is included at Clash VIII and is only rated TVPG. This was cut on the Silvervision release of the Ric Flair boxset at the behest of the BBFC.

Watched that PPV a while ago - the real question is who moved the briefcase? :D

Was a good one alright but honestly the difference between the crowds then and now are night and day. I watched the Schwarzenegger episode from Smackdown 1999 and the crowd were going crazy for him. He appeared on Raw a while back to a small reaction in comparison.

I guess one of the issues is that shows now are so long, especially taking into account pre-show and post-shows. Back then it was two hours of relentless action.

Aye awful looking. Have you any recommendations for the Clashes? I've seen most of the matches that were put out on DVD but unsure about what else I should be looking out for.

Meltzer keeps making references to the Wrestlers getting massively shafted by WWE's new business model and will write about it in the next Observer. Those gift cards are coming out of their pockets.
