    Hi all,

Like many others I have decided 2014 will be the year of the new job for me! I'd like to throw as much mud against the new job wall as possible and have thought about going through an agency in addition to searching myself.
However, that said some agencies are better than others and rather than waste time and energy with some bad ones I thought I'd seek suggestions here.
Thanks in advance and loads of great new job luck to all others.

Thanks Penny. Appreciate your kind thoughts.

I am sure like in previous threads there are good and bad agencies. I have just not found a good one myself to be honest so can't advise. For me they are all the same. They are all over you when they have something positive. They don't want to know you exist (even after promising you something) when they have nothing to report. They are salespeople for their client at the end of the day.

What kind of work are you looking for or in what area? Each Recruitment Company has their strengths and Industry that they like to focus on.

Hi, most of my experience is in the healthcare sector. I'm not clinical but my work relates to ethics, corporate governance, clinical governance and research.
While I'm not set on staying in the public sector I like area of work.

I do believe in LinkedIn and connecting with People in a similar field to see what's out there. I'd Google Irish recruitment companies. Otherwise, there's jobs.ie, Monster.ie, irishjobs.ie, recruitireland.com etc

Anyone know what recruiter has a good reputation when it comes to IT sector jobs for someone with 1-2 years experience?

I currently have a job but looking for a change and my past experience with recruiters is that they don't know the difference between Java and Javascript which lead to a lot of pointless phone calls.

It would be good to have a recruiter who knows what they're talking about and has a good reputation when getting people in to jobs.

One crowd to be very weary of is GCS recruitment .. These clowns happily cold call you at your place of work to discuss job options.

    http://www.gcsltd.com/

Not the kind of people you want to act on your behalf ..

Even funnier their tag line is "Power to Progress" & "working with talent"

Has anyone else come across such shocking behaviour by "agents" ?

Are you incapable of telling them you can't talk at the time, perhaps arrange to chat after hours if you're unable to talk at work? Hope you're not being micromanaged!

Going to be starting my new job next Monday and can't wait for the challenge. Only problem is I was offered 2 similar positions both looking great on paper so I hope that I made the right one!!

Seriously though both were direct. Recruitment consultants for the most part are sales people and bad ones at that. If I ever have to search for work again, it will be direct bypassing those bunch of losers. Full of empty promises.

    Hi Somlad

I wish it was so easy

These clowns are so bad they are happy to leave a message saying they called with the boss
Not to mention Call recording , calling number and voice analytics that are use by most companies these days !!!

That's the exact same experience I had with them. Awful crowd to deal with. Whats worse is they keep calling me now that I'm in a new job (they didn't place me here). I've told them like 10 times I'm employed and not looking for something new but they refuse to take me out of their system so I keep getting a call off one of their members of staff about once a week.

There is nothing worse than a pushy recruiter.

The repeat info is easily sorted under the Data Protection Act ,, Electronic communications ... 5K fine per communication ...
Nail emWorth contacting the Office of Data Protection commissioner

GCS Recruitment Specialists are totally unethical and have no regard for your privacy and your current employment

OMG that's shocking! That could easily cause your boss to think you are trying to leave and you could be treated badly from that point on. Thats seriously bad on their part.

Some employers prefer dealing with agencies to get through the fuzz
But that seems to be changing thankfully

In fairness most agencies are OK at what they do ,, and they do what they do.

But GCS Recruitment Ireland are in a different league ... Cold calling the office and leaving messages to management asking that they get their employee to call them back !!! These people are idiots

Placing the employee in a very difficult position. Try Tell you boss you are not looking for a job ,,, honestly ....

This behaviour is totally condoned by their manager.

Has anyone worked with la creme cork!! First dealing with them I would not be too impressed. For a company Specialising in administration I sent an email asking how to sign up, they never got back three days later. So I sent an email asking for an update. Someone got back saying send in the c.v did that and never heard anymore am I wasting my time with them

I don't know them but based one what you have said I'd avoid like the plague. Imagine if they take 3 days to get back to an employer about you, the position could be filled in that time. Not worth the risk.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,662 ✭✭✭Milly33

That's what I was thinking. It is odd though as I know a lot of companies in Cork use them if they crowd I work for they used them.. I just checked the email there it was 6 days ago I replied with my cv and details and heard nothing back to say even thank you here is how it works.. Sent them an email to say what I thought anywho

Amen to that. I disagree with you saying that most agencies are ok at what they do. If they stopped sproating their bulls**t promises and walk to walk as they talk the talk then I would respect them.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,103 ✭✭✭Tiddlypeeps

If you find a good one they are really great to deal with, from the employers end and the employees end.

When they are bad they are truly awful. They try to shoehorn whoever they can into any roles they find. This results in a lose/lose/lose situation. The employers time is wasted doing interviews, the candidates time is wasted doing interviews for roles they may not be suitable for. If the candidate is qualified but isn't 100% about the job a bad recruiter will bully them into accepting. These candidates often walk after a couple of months, this results in wasted resources for the employer, wasted time for the candidate and no commission or very little commission for the recruiter. The recruiter also burns bridges because that employer wont deal with them again for the next hire.

Nobody wins with a bad recruiter, not even the recruiter!

The worse I have actually found is Approach People in Blackrock. When I was applying for jobs I sent them in a few CV's over a while, tried to get in contact with them by phone and email and they won't return any or send a acknowledgement that I applied in the first place. It makes me wonder if they are just setting up fathom jobs!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,662 ✭✭✭Milly33

That's what I think with them. I sent la Crème or however you spell it an email yesterday just saying again thanks for the lack of information nicely and didn't get anything back from them.

I thought that it could not get worse with agencies but Wallace Myers has stooped to scraping the barrel and really irritated me:mad:

I dealt with a guy a few weeks back in their office. He told me about various positions and asked me to come in. The day before I was to meet with him another guy from the safe office got in contact with other positions. I asked to deal with 1 person as I did not want any confusion.

Went ahead with the meeting. Met the 2 guys. Supposidly I had to as both were dealing with contracts and one permanent roles. Usual stuff - promised me the earth, the moon and the stars. Anyway got a email back from the first guy I met yesterday morning saying that I was unsuccessful in getting the interview with the company in question and best of luck with my new job elsewhere. Lone behold a 3rd guy rang me yesterday evening from the same office rang me asking me about what I was doing and various opportunities etc. Needless to say I was not too happy with the call. Very frustrating when nobody talks to eachother in the same office!!

In their defence micromary, they deal with hundreds of jobseekers each week so they aren't going to remember you. But I would agree they should probably have some sort of CRM system where they can keep your CV and details of their conversations with you.

Stay positive and keep applying... it'll work out for you in the end.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 389 ✭✭micromary

No they were not the guys. I don't think I am able to name names here so I will leave it!!

Thanks for that Mr.Loverman. Starting (hopefully a good) new job tomorrow. Bit nervous already! A big organsition like them should definately have a CPM. It looks poor and inept when different people ring me with the same queries. Just my two cents!

    Hi Guys

    Ex-Recruitment consultant here...!

A few things to note some agencies DO put up phantom adverts for jobs in an attempt to entice candidates what you have to understand is that these "Consultants" have their own targets as given to them by their manager and one of them includes the number of candidates interviewed/met by them, this is why your finding these jobs on-line- going for interview with a consultant and then never hearing back from them ( the jobs never existed in the first place )
This practice by various agencies is very bad and above all dishonest is one of the reasons I chose to leave the industry

I have in the past worked with and been interviewed by various agencies around Dublin I would recommend the following:

La Creme ( Morgan McKinley )
    Brightwater ( Great consultants )
CPL ( Just make sure you meet just one consultant and stick with him/her!)
Origin Multilingual/Beeswax Europe ( if your a language candidate they will place you in a matter of days, keep in contact with you, honest, professional and hardworking)

Stay as far away as possible from:

    HRM ( Phantom Jobs )
Osbourne Recruitment ( You will be interviewed but that's the last you will hear from them!!!)
QED ( Same as above )
    Sigmar ( Very unprofessional )

You could always try Manpower/Grafton big agencies with a large client base they are defiantly worth a shot!! another thing you could try is head on to linked in and find a small based recruiter in business for himself/herself these tend to have a small candidate base and a foothold into some large companies as they probably would have recruited directly for these in the past

Hope this helps any questions Id be happy to Answer!!!

Horizon Recruitment are one I'd recommend. Didn't get a job from them but they went well out of their way to help me amend my CV and stuff like that that paid off in the end.
One to avoid at all costs is Mind Work. Complete cowboys. I did a job interview. Heard back from them out of the blue about two months later offering me the job, but that I'd have to wait a few days before he'd call me with further details. He never called back. Luckily I hadn't handed in my notice at work.

Anyone ever have any success with FRS recruitment? As many times as I've applied for a job through them, not one of their recruiters have called or mailed to make contact. I've even tried ringing them and can't get through.
