    Dunno if this is in the right spot or it be better in the Co. Louth section. I go on anyways, just joined felda about a month now been mainly using it for swimming and that end of stuff. Havent ventured into the Gym section yet because the machines all look very hi-tech and a bit scary! You can get a fitness assessment where they Take your weight, blood pressure and body measurements and Assess your fitness level with a bike test where we monitor your heart rate. This kinda frightens me a lot the idea of someone 'prodding and poking around me'. I have been to another gym in the area but it closed down their equipment werent as scary and easy to use and I didnt bother with a fitness assessment.
    Guess Im just scared of the fitness assessment and wondering has anyone got one done with them? And any general advice to pump myself up for going for one?

    Honestly it's pretty benign and run-of-the-mill. A friend and I did it, doesn't take long and really doesn't involve any poking and prodding.

    I used to be a member of that gym and have done assessments.

    It's fine, you have nothing to worry about.

    They just take basic body measurements and do so outside your tshirt (as far as I remember) so they won't be poking and prodding. The bike test is very easy, they can determine your fitness level from your heart rate.

    The other measurements (weight, height, blood pressure) are very simple to take. And it's all done in a private room away from people.

    The instructors in there are extremely nice so don't be worried!

    And is the bike test is that in the private room too? And then do they go through all the machines and exercises with you? Do they tell you when you have to do another one?

    Yes to all three of your questions! As mentioned, it's not compulsory to do an assessment but it's good to do it, the instructor can help you build a program based on your needs. He/she will walk around the gym with you and show you the machines etc. In any case, there's always instructors floating around who you can ask any questions to!

    The cardio machines you just get on and press start?

    If you plan to lift weights then you should definitely get some instruction. You could also watch some YouTube videos of dumbell lifting in advance.

    Ask for an induction. I've found the staff to be friendly and happy to help people with the machines and whatnot

    So I went on some of the machines and that, just like the bikes and crosstrainer and then pool. So I seen some people go through the assessment, and they seem to be nice and not judgmental. At the end of the day Im paying in my money and I might as well get my money worth and stop living in fear of what people will think.
    Thanks =)
