Grim, Grim January

Does anyone else find January to be a miserable, rather depressing month? Christmas and the New Year festivities are over, the weather is sh*te and you're stony broke (or in debt) after splashing out over Christmas. :(

Does anyone here actually like January?

I hate the early months tbh. Can't wait for this period to pass.

Once we hit May it's all good.

Couple all of that with a load of study for poxy exams and you're onto a real downer.

I like it. Everyone stuck inside being miserable for some reason makes me feel happy. I get depressed during the summer when everyone is enjoying themselves.

Looking forward to the Six Nations in February makes it bearable.

I know a couple of mates where there company leave the Christmas party until Jan, so something to look forward too.

January is no better or worse than any other month. It depends on the weather, what's going on, etc. Usually, weatherwise, I find late October/early November the worst but we seem to be getting the weather from that time now!

Every month is what you make of it. The best thing is to organise something to look forward to in each.

A lot of it, I feel, has to do with all the crap we eat over a three or week period.

It's no different to drugs. Food has many opiate effects also.

Buy a juicer and eat more salads, home made soups etc.

Spring clean your liver, for a newer, better you*.

You need to get to March. Paddy's Day and on to the Summer.Until then it's quite boring. No money, and dark. Take it as a do your own thing month, exercise more , catch up on series. No need to be too sociable, best month to allow yourself to organise things.

Went into work on Thursday and it was like someone had died. It was fcukin horrible. Hope that doesn't last! Major downer buzz.

I'm gonna stay positive. Have a few bits and pieces planned for this month. It's no different from any other month in my eyes.

At least towards the end of the month and the early part of Feb you notice the mornings are a bit brighter and the evenings stretch a little.

Only six months to go until we get the annual 8 days of sunshine. Wa-hey! :pac:

    Yep it's terribly grim.

Especially this weather, seems like it gets to me a little bit more as each year goes by.

Cannot wait to get out of here again.

December is rubbish. January is fine, all the Christmas shite is over. I don't splash out or spend money I don't have for Christmas, so that solves my problem there.

I just console myself with the fact that since the winter solstice, the days are technically lengthening again.

January she is a c**t, no doubt about it.

January's awful... although I did plan (not on purpose) a good few things to look forward to this month... now I just need the dough to enjoy them fully. :D

Only 351 days left to Christmas. Sigh!

Used to hate it, my birthday is in early jan and everyone is all partied out and on a downer. Then I decided to embrace it and stop wishing months of my life away.
I now try to enjoy a good storm or run in January weather. I can honestly say it can be pretty life affirming to run in lashing cold rain and follow it up with a hot shower followed by deserved treats in front of the fire with the rain still hammering off the window.
Ultimately we often get what we expect in jan weather wise.... It's the promise of warm summer weather in July that can be more disappointing when it fails to materialise IMO.

Two weeks off at end of January for lunar new year and didn't spend a penny on Christmas. Not a bad month.

Yup, was feeling the jan blues this evening so ended up booking a holiday to Malta for a couple of weeks time. Was a bloody bargain so glad I did it. Otherwise I'd just be counting down the days till spring.

I went there last January for next to nothing. It's a lovely place, enjoy!

Good stuff! Was a toss up between there and agadir, but since I'm going by myself didn't want the hassle from the local men if I went outside the resort. No such issue with Malta so it won out, even though it won't be as warm :(

Some great holiday deals in jan so if you can, I definitely recomend getting away.

I love January. Not in the biblical sense, I just kinda like it.

I hate January, it's my birthday mid month so I'm postponing it til the end of the month, we have more important things to waste money on, like bills

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,180 ✭✭✭EyeSight

i find the city, bars and restaurants to be much better than they are in December. Some of the drunks i encountered this year were intolerable!

My trick for January is to always plan a mini weekend break for the end of the month and take that monday off work. That way when you go back to work after xmas you have something to look forward to soon :)

I don't mind it at all. Back to college soon, can't wait for that!

The first couple of weeks are the worst as you arrive at work in near darkness and leave just after it getting dark! At least by the end of January you can see the light. ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,591 ✭✭✭✭Aidric

Only grim if you let it be. Most of the bad vibes seem to stem from having to go back to work, not everyone was so lucky to have a few weeks off over Christmas.

Book a skiing holiday in January if you're feeling grim.

The only thing worse than January is February.

After 31 days of January's sh1te weather and dark evenings, February comes and crops up to say "Groundhog Day".

Fcuking February. It drops a few days like it's trying to be a hero.

    Spring my ar$e.

    LEAVE JANUARY ALONE!!!!

January has its charms: sparkly frost, chance of snow, pots of stew, the hearth. I also really like the quiet after Christmas.

    Get ripped or die trying.

Christmas guilt. Until payday at the end of Jan

Schools cup begins in 3 weeks, 6 nations in 4. Heineken Cup next two weeks. Brighter mornings. Clinging on for dear life.

Jan is short for Janice - hardly that confusing.

I hate the Winter. The only part of it I like is getting out of the cold and into a nice warm pub with a fire and some not overly loud music. Nothing tastes better than that first beer...:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:

Who tried desperately for a man
    Then got one bewitched
Who she found out was hitched
And that's when the merde the fan :)

going off again in march, end of april, july and then october/november.

the misery doesnt get you when you can look at the horror faces walking around town and think "hahaha i dont have to be like you".
