So I recently got around to getting a controller for steam games. Prior to that I was mainly using consoles for action games and steam for strategy games. I am wondering what is the difference between partial and full controller? When they say partial, what can I expect to work?

That would differ from game to game. I would imagine some partial games would lack features such as vibration and showing tool tips with the controller buttons instead of keys. Ofcourse it could mean something wildly different.

Full Controller Support means the game full supports an xbox controller.
Partial Controller Support means a controller will work on the game but you may need to map the controllers 1st

    I think that is correct

In my experience "Partial Controller" support usually means that the game is "almost" Full Controller supported.
So if a game has a launcher window which can only be controlled with a mouse/keyboard,
then it only gets "Partial Controller" status.

Examples of "Partial Controller" supported games are; Skyrim, Fallout:NV, FarCry 3 etc.
They're still called Partial Controller even though once launched, the 360 controller works flawlessly

Example of a "Full Controller" supported game would be; Borderlands 2 (Launcher window can be controlled with 360 controller)
