Boardman Bikes in Halfords

    just wondering does anyone know if the boardman bikes in halfords ranging from €700 to €1000 are decent bikes , some have carbon forks , dearer ones have full carbon , etc , any advice will be welcome , thanks

    They are ok, better bargains to be got, Wiggles doing a good offer on a felt at the moment.

    I too would like to know that. Im 6ft 4 which I think means I need about a 58 frame at least. All halfords bikes seem to be less than that

    I'm no Halfords fan but I think Boardman are making some pretty decent bikes. There Boardman TT bikes have been used to get gold in the Olympics and the Ironman world champion. I dont think they are making bad bikes at all.

    I bought one in Sept 2012 - the Race. I shopped around at the time and could not find anything that had the same combo of alu frame/carbon fork and reasonable components at the same price. I really like the frame, it is finished exceptionally and looks and feels great. I have not had any problems with the exception of the usual consumable stuff, tubes, tyres, etc. I paid an extra €2.99 for the one year service and as I didn't need any components changed, I got a brake adjustment, gear service and chain lube, etc. for that price so not bad.

    My only niggle is the Sora groupset, it works very well but I probably will upgrade this in time - it is an entry level piece of kit so from that perspective I have no issues. I have over 5,500km on the bike since I bought it and though its always good to think about new bikes, I would be reluctant to sell this. The Race is now over €100 less than when I bought it and I think Boardman are building overspec'd bikes, in terms of frame and some groupset elements (brakes, chainring, etc.) to grab some market share so I think they are undervalued.

    You can get variable service from the people at Halford's but I found them fine if I asked them to check something again before I left the shop.

    I bought a Boardman 2nd hand (or 3rd) off here a couple of years ago and its still going strong. My only niggle is the paint is starting to flake off around the bottom bracket.

    Usually you have good prices Canyon and Rose that sell only by internet

    Canyon Roadlite 6.0 could be a very good option in that range of prices

    Not necessarily - I'm 6ft 4 and have 3 different sized bikes - 57, 59 and 61. My race bike is sized at 59cm and has a 573mm effective top tube. The biggest Carbon boardman is sized as a 57.5 and has an effective top tube of 571mm no real difference. It's all about the fit - go in and try them out
